Hey Guys, like I said before, I have NEVER overclocked in my entire life. Even the procesor I have now has never been overclocked. I just had two quick question, I have read that you can overclock the E6850 to 4Ghz on Air Cooling, is this correct? And second The Q6600, I am guessing that you need Water Cooling right? And if this is true, then I am not going to overclock this processor. I have never done water cooling either. One day has passed by and I thought I was sure that I want the Q6600, but now I Am starting to have second thoughts again. If I don't get the Quad-Core now, I will get to for sure when the 45nm comes out. I know alot of you guys said that The Q6600 is the best way to go. Maybe I will give it one more day and then I will make my Final Final Decusion! THX! P.S. Fusion
Hey Guys, I have started to do reviews on the Q6600, So I am guessing I am gona go with the Q6600 After all. I just had few questions: 1) Can I get the Q6600 now (Of course after Price Cut)? 2) When I order it on-line, do I need to look for something regarding this processor (Stepping I guess or something else). Or do I just order the Q6600 Period? 3) Will this processor work when I get the X38 Chipset based Motherboards Intel or Asus? (Because I plan to get the 45nm based Quad-Core Next year or so) Thx for all the help guys! P.S. Fusion
I'm in the middle of this dilemma too. I very rarely upgrade as I cant afford it, so whatever processor i buy i need to last for about 3-4 years. I was erring on the 6850 as it comes out best in the games tests, but if i'm being honest, the main use of my computer isnt for games (although i do play alot) I've never overclocked before, so not sure how easy it would be and whether i'd have enough cooling to manage it, so at the moment, i really dont know... I cant afford water cooling, so if that's necessary to overclock, thats a no go for me. Anyone got any advice one which way to go for a person in my situation?!
If it helps, I have my Q6600 running at stock, my cpu temp's aren't high, I need to check when I get home what they are but it is much better than the old Amd 64 3500 i just replaced. I game as well as use my pc for everything else, and as vista has media centre on it, I now use that. All I can say is I can defrag one hdd, virus scan another and use MC without any lag what so ever, and according to the side bar gadget in vista, even doing this, I have about 1 and a half cores free so I could game as well, it is worth it I reckon.
Core 2 processors, Dual and Quad from Intel overclock by huge amounts. I overclock my E6600 to 3 GHz which I can do in air with no problems. I could go much further without problems. The reason I dont is that my Gigabyte P35C-DS3R motherboard allows dynamic overclocking, hence at low load the motherboard keep the bus speed to 266MHz (2.4GHz), then when the CPU load goes up, it ups the bus to 333MHz (3GHz). If you are are going to overclock, then get a good heatsink/fan such as the Zalman CNPS9500-AT and you will have no problems. This fan is regulated via the BIOS, so as the CPU temp increases, the fan gets faster. My Zalman fan does not go that fast, hence the CPU is not that hot even when at 100% load. Because Intel CPU's overclock so well, I dont think it is worth spending the cash on high end CPU's, but rather a mid end chip that you can overclock a little. An older E6600/Q6600, or the new E6550/E6750. As for stepping. The Q6600's are having a price drop, not a new stepping. Also you will not know what stepping of a process you are getting until you get it. All the new chipsets from intel, P35, X38 etc will support the new 45nm chips and 1333MHz FSB. I am not going to upgrade to the new 45nm's, but wait until Core 3 is out next year which should be an amazing chip.
Ninja tbh. Something very beefy. We've got a vapo in house now, as well as a Thermaltake WCing kit to test with a Q6600
In the real world, do you think you will notice any difference between either chips while game playing? I don't which makes the Quad Core the one to have IMO
They are getting a new stepping. http://www.overclock.net/pre-sales/205134-g0-stepping-q6600s.html http://www.tankguys.biz/product_info.php?products_id=1712 <- you can pre order them here. Edit: oh and one other thing, I posted a thread earlier asking if the price of the q6600 and the e6850 would actually be $266 (the price that we would pay). No one could give me an answer but I've confirmed what I suspected. This price is the price per 1000 units, not the MSRP and retailers will be pricing above $266. the site I listed above for example *may* in fact price them at over $300 dont forget about how supply and demand works. if everyone and their dog is waiting to buy them for after the 22nd, the sellers will have no supply and price accordingly.
There will be pretty much no differences as games are graphics limited, not CPU limited generally speaking. btw, Q6600 up @ 3.24GHz with very little effort so far in P35... Will definitely be doing 680i overclocking and maybe P965 too if there is time.
Hey Guys, Now that I have decided that I am gona go with the Q6600, I need help in the Air Cooling area. I might or might now overclock, but I need to have the best Air cooling out there. So for the people who have Air cooling on there Q6600 or if you guys have good recommendations, Please share those with me. I am using a Cooler-Master Air cooling for my old system. So if you guys can give me your opinions on Good Air Cooling, It would really help me out and my Q6600 Processor! My Case is the Cooler-Master Stacker 830! P.S. Fusion!
The stock fan is actually fairly competent, it's not superb, but it'll certainly support stock and small overclocks. I've personally had my eyes locked on the Thermaltake V1 for quite some time now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106102
a hard decsion for you to make, personal i would go with the quad, mainly cos its quad! i am looking at these for a friend, but where is tower is situated there is NO to little airflow round it, so im kinda leaning to the e6850, just cos it runs cooler, but will c what he thinks, when the time comes!
Hey Guys, The reviews I am doing on the Q6600, will they be good reviews. The reason I ask this is because I have been hearing that the New Q6600 will have the G0 Stepping? And if you don't mind, can you please explain what is this G0 Steeping? THX! P.S. Fusion
The new q6600 being released on the 22nd as I posted earlier does support G0 stepping. thats according to intel. http://www.overclock.net/pre-sales/205134-g0-stepping-q6600s.html this post was made by a vendor who gets his information from intel. you know, the people who make the chips. You'll also note that you can pre-order the Q6600 with the G0 stepping here: http://www.tankguys.biz/product_info.php?products_id=1712
