EARTHQUAKE NORTH WEST OF JAKARTA http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1176235,00.html News still coming in, but reports that a tsunami warning has been issued for the region.
More reports indicate it was the same freakin' fault line as the last one :EDIT: And on a side note, the quake occured in much more shallow waters, and no damage has yet been reported. Things shouldnt be that bad.
I see a pattern, several very big earthquakes in the past year on the same fault line. Anybody see Supervolcano on BBC1 a few weeks ago? Yes, I know there isn't a volcano involved (yet)
It is not unusual for large earthquakes to come in clusters. People have been expecting this follow-up for months.
In fact only last night, at the end of the BBC1 'Anatomy of the Tsunami' programme was a forecast of more quakes "soon" in the stressed region from the Boxing Day quake.
8.7 confirmed by the BBC's sources with over 100 buildings near the epicenter (nearest island) and dosens of people trapped. No official word on any deaths as of yet however by the looks of things there will be some. Its unlikely that there will be a tsunami as already stated it was in much shallower waters. Hopefully there will be a minimum of deaths as every one in that region will have been prepaired (in some way) for an earthquake as its still fresh in there minds. Hopefully there will be no more aftershocks over there however given the power of the fist quake the fault line needs to shift and there looks like there will be several more quakes to come in the future.
About 50 deaths reported so far; people within 1000 kilometers of the epicenter have already been told to get away from the coastline, and a small tsunami has been detected in the ocean; its yet to hit land, but it looks like people have learned, and are leaving the areas that could be affected.
