they are ok, but could be better.

For reference my 2nd pc is an i5-750 oc'd to 4ghz, also in a raven RV02 amd using a corsair h50. My temps are about the same as yours. So there os.deffo room for improvement.

3 things that have an impact on temps......

What fans are you using on the h80, what voltage are you putting through the cpu and how many times did you mount the cooler (it can sometime take a couple of goes to get it right.)

Oh and also what paste and method did you use?

Ive since changed the vcore from auto @ 1.275/3 and noticed a massive drop in temps (10-13c), to 1.200v at 4ghz. Thing is intel burn test on maximum wont get past the 2nd pack but temps are on average 52c. Ive since knocked the vcore up to 1.210v but still same story, what increaments should I be increasing by as ive only been doing 0.5? The last test I dont on max ITB @ 1.210v, temps didnt exceed 55c on average.

Increase it by .1 until you get some stable results. Also, I found that not oc'ing my ram and actually downclocking it to 1333mhz really improved stability. You wont notice any difference in performance unless your benching.

My chip needs 1.35v to get 4.5ghz. Temps dont go higher than 54c in bf3. Bearing in mind the cpu shares the loop with a gtx 480 (aka a nuclear power plant) thid isnt too bad for a triple rad.

    .1?

at 1.220v now @ 4ghz, running IBT on max and into the 4th pack with temps averaging 53c, if this is stable, are those good temps?

Now stable @ 4ghz, 1.210v, max temps on IBT max stress average 54/55c. This still too high for a SB

Seems a bit high for 4ghz I hardly get higher than that at 4.5, tried reseating cooler?

I see the H80 comes with pre-applied compound... are u using that or another thermal paste?

That was wiped I used what I had left of mx 2, not a great deal, just ordered some mx 4. Ill wait to reapply it, but perhaps this is the norm for these chips and others with lower temps either are under a custom loop, live in a freezer or got lucky with the batch, or all of the listed lol.

Heres the low down at idle, with the comp being on a few hours and after about 6 unsuccessful attempts @ 4.2ghz with IBT maxed. Got vcore up to 1.260v but didnt want to increase anymore until I got my new paste applied. So downclocked to 4ghz @ 1.215v, stable

No. its not too high for SB. Its too high for such a mild overclock.

ill have a stab at remounting cooler once new paste is applied and using stock corsair fans for H80, I assume ill need ones that can push more air in?

Im not sure what the stock fans on a H80 are like, but i changed out the stock fan from the H50 straight away for a gentle typhoon 1850. Its slightly loud for me (i am very fussy with noise though) but the performance is great.

I am very happy with my 8 x Arctic cooling F12 PWM fans. They dropped my liquid cooled GPU load temps from 41c to 31c, case temps also down. Can chain up to 5 of them (each one connects to the other) and to 1 x 4 pin fan header. 6 year warranty, 74CFM per fan. Unbeatable.

The CFM spec on this page is wrong. 74CFM it should read.

would these be amongst the best fans for performance? I dont care about noise, just anal about temps.

Look for a 38mm fan, they are noisy but shift some serious air.

I have been following your experiments as I'm looking for a second rig to run BOINC on.

In parallel, I have my i7-960 at 4.15 GHz @ 1.275V cooled by a H70 fitted with two 240V 38mm deep fans, at 100% load I'm seeing a maximum temperature of 68 degrees.

P.S. Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm at 3000 rpm should do the trick !

The design is excellent. If you look at the fan blades and unlike some of the other fans often recommended with huge motor hubs, these fans have small and very efficient motors.

Noise is pretty good. I have them speed controlled by motherboard/speedfan. What's important is that even if you reduce the speed to 30% they still move a lot of air.

3 of them on my rad at full speed produces a gentle whoosing of air. No motor noise. Only air movement. The 5 fans in my case do produce a bit more noise because of the case design. I may use the rubber mounts I bought.

Basically I bought 3 of these fans for the external radiator and was so impressed I bought 5 more for the case.

Your temps are fine you will prob hit 4.5 ghz around. 1.3 v which is pretty excellent With under 80c on all cores you will never see these temps in normal usage either

Feathers, the F12s I have only do 58CFM. Where did you get the 74 from given the 2200RPM fan on my Fenrir cooler only shifts that much and the F12s move at nearly half that speed.
