Does anyone know the rules regarding selling stuff on ebay and asking for collection only (ok I know you can do that) and asking for cash on collection ? Obviously asking for Paypal is a requisite, but are you 'allowed' to put collection with cash only, even if the paypal option is present (which it has to be to list it anyway).
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you are considering doing that to avoid setting up a Paypal account, it doesn't work like that. You must have a Paypal account to list an item on ebay but you don't necessarily have to use it, as "Cash on collection" is perfectly acceptable.
theres no stipulation on what services you can offer in terms of delivery/collection. every auction has to have paypal as an option wether its delivery or collection, you dont have to offer a delivery service if you want collection only with cash, but regardless paypal payment has to be accepted or else you will not be able to list an auction.
I have Paypal and I can 'offer' it, it just doesn't work as I didn't follow the steps to verify it after getting over a certain amount. I am awaiting a letter off them with a code on it, apparently.
You can still insist on cash for collection only. Maybe not officially but I've done this quite a few times without any problem, e.g. being banned or listings deleted. There are loads of scumbay listings which say local pickup - cash only. If someone pays you via PayPal and then collects then there's a good chance you get screwed as PayPal (certainly used to) insist on you providing a tracking number to them in case of any claim against you and of course you won't have one.
I'm soo mad at Paypal nowadays. They just have no respect for their users whatsoever... They used to be the greatest startup and now Ebay MBA management has ruined the service. Unfortunately there is a lot of interesting stuff on ebay, from sellers which only accept paypal. /offtopic Of course you're not allowed to refuse paypal payment.
Of course, that's not going to keep a PITA buyer from still using paypal. But don't worry, IIRC you still receive payments while your account is frozen, it's just that you can't get to them.
Most people are decent enough to understand, but that's still grounds for a Non Performing Seller complaint (and possibly a neg) if your buyer decides to be an arse about it.
they try and get you to stick with pay pal because fleabay owns paypal and takes another cut of your hard earned cash again. i understand them taking an auctioneers fee but taking another cut under another name and not offering the service as part of the fleabay service is a joke. I ask for cash on quite a few large items. Only thing i would say is try and do it in daylight in a well populated area, with a well established ebayer and definately don't sell anything that people will try and shaft you for. Like a woman who sold a car on there a few years back and they held her at knife point and took the car. Don't know if they caught them but insurance were arguing she gave them keys and had no proof they held her at knife point so she could've been doubly shafted. No pun intended!
No it's not... It's A) Good business. And B) Because ebay and Paypal are two different companies, and Paypal is used for infinitely more transactions than just the ones on ebay. Half the retail webasites in the world accept paypal and ebay don't get any auction listing fees from those sales do they?
Actually Paypal is owned by eBay now but i get your point. Personally i don't mind paypal fees, but when combined with eBay's relatively high FVF it's a little steep. No worries though, you're supposed to roll your fees into the price.
i dont disagree with paypal. But like Drag says when they own the company they could try to combine the service as a bit of an incentive. I understand it is good business (i'm sure id prob do same if i'd've come up with the idea and saw the ££££££) but im sure this puts quite a lot of people off ebay. especially people that don't want there information all over. I'm just saying put paypal under the umbrella of services included with ebay. Im not an ebay hater. Im just not their biggest fan. and i am a fan of systems like paypal. Anything that makes my money safer is good.
It's acceptable but you HAVE to accept paypal now. Though I don't have a problem with paypal really, yeah it's a bit lame that ebay will take money then a company owned by them will take even more, but it's pretty good and I've not had many problems with paypal or ebay before when it comes to crappy sellers or selling items. I also love how they are on so many web sites now. As a buyer it's fantastic as I don't have to put my card details into a ton of different sites.
