    In interesting interview with Meg Whitman (Big Cheese at eBay), courtesy of Wired:

    WASHINGTON -- When sifting through the rubble of the Internet economy, Meg Whitman is among the few who not only survived but did quite well.

    Under her stewardship, eBay -- now one of the most highly valued companies in the United States -- has shown steady growth in revenue, profit and stock price, even following the aftermath of the dot-com implosion that began in March 2000. Now that the economy appears to be recovering, eBay's chief executive has turned her attention to small businesses, which are increasingly becoming eBay's bread and butter.

    Last week Whitman was in Washington, along with 49 small-business owners and eBay users, to lobby against proposals to impose remote sales taxes on Internet retailers. The United States of eBay Small Business Summit culminated with a Wednesday night dinner, attended by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who recently helped push a four-year extension of the moratorium on Internet-access taxes through the Senate.

    After her speech, Whitman sat down with Wired News to discuss eBay's growth prospects, its work with small businesses, taxes and why her secretary likes stock options.
