A full solar eclipse tonight meant I was out with (unfortunately) my Canon Powershot, as the DSLR was unavailable so the images were less than stellar. A 15 second ISO 100 exposure of my backyard created an interesting little spot that I cropped out and adjusted in photoshop. I left it in full res because due to my crazy aspect ratio I feel anything less won't do it justice, and its only 180k so no worries. Let me know what you think.

And the moon at 12x digital zoom... meh.

The telescopic would have done it justice.

Lucky to have got clear skys - and great you were able to make good use of the opportunity

Here in Southern UK, it was cloudy so was disappointed not to get any pictures of the eclipse.

I saw it going when it was about halfway there, really looked like a normal not-full moon to me. I was waaaay too tired last night to go out for when the eclipse was full-on.

But no matter anyways, the solar system has horrible timing (might be picking up a 70-200 2.8L this weekend :D)

hey hey look at you...one question, do you need f/2.8 glass or are you just interested in the FL. The reason I ask is because sometimes I wish I had the f/4 IS version too...its deadly sharp, not that my f/2.8 IS isn't, but the f/4 version is noticeably sharper.

I'd really prefer to have f/2.8 over f/4 IS right now, for two reasons. 1) I was shooting for a group in a badly lit auditorium, and even with two strobes firing at the stage it was still darker than I had liked (with my 28-135 3.5-5.6 zoomed just enough to stay at f/5) - had I not been able to use the flashes I'd have had to shoot unusably slow speeds at ISO1600 and 2) someone on FM that doesn't live way too far from me has a f/2.8 for sale with a UV filter and the tripod ring for $900ish. Plus the newer bodies get better AF with 2.8 glass, so I'm looking to the future a bit as well.
