I swore I wouldn't go, but I've had no luck getting a job so I have just been down the college to enroll!!!!!! I'm doing: Computing - AS/A Business - AS/A Accounting - AS/A *cough*general studies*cough* You guys think that's a good setup or will it frazzle my brain with boredom?
Am I the only person in the world who HATES physics with a passion along with all the other sciences?
i did: maths further maths physics product design art (evening class) all to A level personally i think u'd have got a better spread if you'd done maths alevel... basically if u changed your mind and wanted to do something computing related at uni u'd find a lot of compsci courses need maths AS/A2... so u may be restricted by doing that
/me breathes a sigh of releaf now my college course BTEC ND advanced ICT [ think im useless with remembering course titles] is over but i think i fialed it, networking - had a clent server setup running in 5 mins flat - systems install & config - built a machine in less than 10 mins, formatted & had windows set up & installed as college wanted, same with office no trouble, web disign fantastic site but my documetation has let me down as im useless at writing stuff down, as im sure may of you are, you know how to do it but yo cant but it on paper the order you work in that s the only tip i can offer to people going on to college you may know everything as im sure adam does as hes been rinnng a pc repair company but if you cant write about it in great detail at extreme length then youve had it
I'm useless at writing stuff down too, I just focus on doing it. Thanks for the advice Alaric, I might change general studies for Maths in that case - keeping my options open.
I did Computer Science and Electronics for A-Level. Then I did a term and a bit of Computer Science at Aberystwyth Uni, what a pile of crap! The course was really good in the first semester then went down down hill.... I've had discussions with peeps from LANL (Los Alamos National Labs) and I'm on the mailing list for robotics related jobs! but first i need to scratch up on my robotic and programming skills, thats why i've just bought myself some *cough* Lego Mindstorms *cough* kit
Physics is l337 I wish I had done it to a higher level than just A level Maths is a good one to have, even though it is such a painful subject to study. As alaric mentions, most universities require an A level in mathematics in order for you to meet their entrance requirements for Computer Science... also if you have a choice as to what maths you do... concentrate on anything like statistics/logic/decision and descreet, as well as a bit of pure maths too, this is the sort of stuff that you are pretty much garaunteed to come across if you study computer science at university.
I chose stats over mechanics because i wanted to do computer science at uni, didn't have the choice of decision tho
Yeah maths is a good choice, its just whether u can stand it or not ( I kept falling asleep in the lesson ) So I swapped it for psychology (wasnt that a good idea?) and with that I did electronics, computing, physics, and g.s. but we are forced to do that... grrr
just check out a few prospectuses from unis... they'll prolly be in the careers library or online... even if u don't go to uni if u want your options open knowing in the back of your head what they want will help
Well i did A levels Maths- Pure and Applied Physics Design Degree MEng Enginerring Design and Manufacture and Finally PhD - Computer model of the spine for diagnostic purposes. All I can say is "I've never learnt how to write properly and probably never will " I would definatly advise going to College and Uni (if you make it that far) 'coz it will give you a better start in the work place but also give you invaluable life skills. The down side is that you'll probably end up in a ver large amount of debt (especially if you were a student for the lenght of time I was ) Meblin
Business Studies is the biggest PILE OF POO ever! hated it with a passion! Ive just finished: Computing (A2) History (A2) Media Studies (A2) Film Studies (AS) History wasnt good, but the rest were. Last Media exam tommorrow afternoon, yay! Then im freeeeeeeeeeeeee from education for at LEAST a year! Yes! College courses are boring, but the people u meet there are great. Some different and unusual lecturers and students! Ill miss it!
I did : *Computing A level *Business Studies A level *Polotics A level *General Studies, (cough) I got em just !
First of what the hell is an A2? Secondly why do you want to do *cough*Accounting*cough* for? You can always retrain if you want to be an accountant, which I'm sure you don't Meblin
An A2 is what you do in the second year, I think it's equivalent to a normal A level but I don't know much! The college recruitment woman said I should do accounting as it would be useful if I was an IT manager for a company in charge of buying and selling. I may change what I'm doing though after next week.
The new AS system, makes u do more work and get more grades (supposedly!) In ur first year (AS) u will choose up to 6 AS courses and will be examined on them at the end of the year. The courses include the majority of the syllabus, but with limited depth. At the end of the year, u will have up to 6 AS qualifications. You can then choose to continue into the second year (A2) where u will carry on with the courses, reviewing and developing ur AS knowledge. You will be examined at the end of the year and attain A2 grades, which is what Uni's go off. I was advised to take 3 AS to A2 level and picked up a new AS level (Film Studies.) This is not a necessity, just an option. The "advanced" students can sometimes take all their AS courses on to A2, where they will have the hardest time of their lives! mwhahahaha It just means u have more chance to try out different courses and actually have to work in the first year! :dude:
