Personally I don't just see why Apple don't release OS X on PCs there gotta be alot of people out there that would try Mac OX S but don't want to fork out all that money for a system when you can buy something way better for cheaper.

I might give this a try, i remember i tried out Mac OS X Tiger on one of my PCs but it was very slow so i uninstalled it.

    EDIT: I've found this.

@cully cause then they would loose one of there major bennifits, by reducing possible hardware configurations they can ensure things work the way there meant to

Very true there Woodstock. Granted you can take just about any group of PC hardware and get the OS to work, but getting certain features to work like they should can be a very large pain in the butt. I'm still trying to figure out why 10.5.2 won't actually shut off my Hackintosh, it just gives me OS X's version of a BSoD after it's done everything but cut the power to the system.

Eh, it's just the standard grey overlay kernel has panicked screen. Other than that it's rock solid and blazing fast on my setup.

I wouldn't mind being limited to a certain (decent) hardware set up. It's just a Mac Pro with 8 cores is not high on my finical goals list. How ever, stock server components would be cheaper and, with OSX, mix nicely with my workflow/storage setup.

The Mac Pro is based on server parts, Dual CPU motherboard, Many Ram slots, These types of motherboards alone cost 500 dollars. Then the Dual Xeon setup could easily cost another 1000 dollars just for the Xeon Quad cores. Then you still have to pay for the x1900xt or 8800gt. So i would say Apples price is very far for what your getting.

This isn't going to last long, Apple will find out about it and shut them down. Apple can't do anything about mods that are released on the internet for free, but if you start selling your mod then I would think that Apple will shut you down for selling an illegal product.

ORLY? Boy, I wish I had known that before I made my post. I wish I had priced a Mac Pro that fit my photo work flow and DAM needs. Then I could have researched one from quality parts for 1/2 the price, including a good RAID 5 card that lets me go beyond the 4 drive internal limit on the Mac Pro. Then I might have a good grasp of why Apple locks their software to their hardware, both for compatibility reasons and for marketing ones. And what the hackintosh movement is trying to do to make OSX more accessible to people. /sarcasm

OH WAIT! I DID:duh: And 10,000 US dollars is what I came up with for a Mac Pro.

So no, I wouldn't go quite so far as to say the Mac Pro's price is fair. It's just the price that Apple can charge. As much as I like Apple's design and software, they do need to lower their hardware costs significantly. Or release a mid tower. Either way, using industry standard server/workstation parts, I can spec an 8 core system that more them meets my e-peen and real work needs; for half of what a similar Mac Pro would be. So I stand by my post, and my interest in these projects.

and yes, someone did piss in my cheerios this morning.
