    The posibilities are endless.
Stuff the can full of... tissue paper, expanding foam, sponge, packing peanuts, popcorn (popped), sponge cake, concrete (They aren't gong to be able to prove it broke when it landed!)

Hmmm... slightly wacked out idea: fill the rest of the can with flour and sugar. The dry ingredients will take the impact and if they don't mix well and bake for 20 mins or untill golden brown.

The key is making the egg's period of deceleration when it hits the ground take as long as possible....

I remember doing this in school, we had a crazy box design packed full of polystyrene, the egg was sort of suspended in the middle by lots of sellotape and cotton wool. I think it would've worked but I dropped the egg on the floor before we put it in the box :duh: :worried:

no parachutes or outside objects... Im thinking of the cross idea, but making a cross that slides in maybe a pain in the as-. keep the ideas coming along pweeease :D i would try that bunjee chord idea, but if it shakes, the egg is probably done for... :D

Just a tip, but make it so that the most force on the egg will be on the top, or the bottom. You can try to break and egg by putting as much force as you can buy squeazing the top/bottmo together on the egg. It wil lnot break. I have tried as hard as I can, along with my brother to do that. Simply wouldn't break. Although, our hands someone formed to the shape of the egg, unlike hard pavement. Learned that from watching "Bill Nye The Science Guy"
*start bill nye the science guy theme song

    lol
I like the elastic idea, and the tube ideas. Sem to be promising. The tube Idea seems a little bit easier though.

Water and a disk in the middle. Place the egg on the disk, the idea is as it hits the floor the water will act as a brake for the disk which will try to carry on moving.

Well, I know the cross works since we did it. However, the idea with the leggings sounds great as well. I mentioned we tried that with rubber bands but didn't get the bands tight enough so it bounced against multiple sides. Just make sure the leggings are very tight. Drill holes in the sides of the can. Put the egg in the legging, pull the material through the holes and knot them on the outside of the can. You might have to knot the material on either side of the egg to keep it from sliding to a side.

since you're using foam remember to use as much as possible, pack it in fairly hard, all the way around so whichever way the can lands there is foam to absorb the deceleration of the egg.

Dropping an egg off a roof won't break it! The egg hitting the ground after you've dropped it is the problem!

last time i did had to do this, used a load of bread and jam, lined the box with bread, and used jam to dampen the impact, that was from about 12ft, was the only one that survived the test iirc
