Just went onto the ATI site to get the latest Catalyst drivers....and they're only doing the CC flavour now!! Wot no Control Panel version?! :eyebrow: ba'stardos!! :grr: Now I'm gonna be stuck with the lame CC version for now on.... :sigh:

Previous CC versions used to crash my PC and it was awful to use....though that was way back to Catalyst 4.8 through to 4.11. Gave up and stuck to the CP version.

Who else here think it sucks that ATI now offer only one flavour of their drivers? And how does the 5.12 CC version behave now, bugs gone, no problems?

CC does suck IMO. Downloaded two of the smaller packages but havent installed yet to see if it has what I want (the old Color, 3D, Displays tabs).

You're joking?! :eyebrow: You need to be connected to the Net everytime you use it, like when changing an AA setting? :eyebrow:

errr.. no not all the time... but it prefers to eat up your bandwidth and I can say that from my own experience... it wanted to get on the net and I didn't let it... so it got mad at me and spammed with my firewall until I removed the CC

This is why I hate ATI's drivers. I have nothing against their cards, but their software... :wallbash:. nVidia's drivers just seem to work - no unnecessary rubbish, with everything seamlessly integrated into the XP display applet.

I did a totally fresh install of Windows on a totally new machine the other day; one of the first things that I installed was the latest ATI drivers, direct from their website. The drivers installed fine, but CCC never even worked - apparently "failed to initialise" right from the start.

Fear not worried light side users. There is an alternative, this site actually bases their drivers on the catalysts, but strip away all the unwanted rubbish(CC included). They generally lag about one driver version behind, but they're totaly stable, I'm using them myself right now because I dislike the CC doing its best to start up everytime I switch on my PC. Enjoy :)

Cheers... will stick to those in future builds. I'd rather be a version behind than stuck with all the CCC rubbish tbh.

Yep, same here....Omegas is what I'll be using from now on until I build my new rig. Then I'll defect to using nVidia cards. I've had a few issues with the occassional Omega. ATI really have to pull their act together.
