Has anyone had any experience with these? I've seen a few brands knocking around, namely ApiTek stuff - and now Sony's jumped on the band wagon with a Sub £200 one as well (shame it uses Memory Sticks)

From what I can gather, they're not going to be in the same league as a top end Hi Def camcorders, but the one I'm currently interested in:

is only £150 from Maplin - and I have to ask myself, is the cheapo Maplin one £600ish less of a camera than a competing JVC, Sony or Canon, or are the said competitors worth the extra 600 notes? It certainly looks the buisness.

Most of the 'reviews' of the camera in question have been good. Sample footage I've seen looked great, and I've seen some stellar looking video of lesser, 720p cheap-o-cams that guys in the States have been strapping to their dashboards when they go racing round Laguna Seca. It's better than the stuff from F1! ;)

You get what you pay for. If you buy a £1000 HD camera from Sony/Panasonic/JVC, it will have a far better quality sensor, better image control features (white level, exposure etc.), more outputs and it will probably record in higher quality too.

I bet that camera won't work well, if at all, indoors, while the £1000 ones would have no trouble.

However, if you've seen the footage and think "that's good enough for me", you might as well save yourself £800!

I dunno, looking through the last link to Steve's Digicams' forums, it looks/sounds like it's a winner. Just needs the newer firmware on it and bob's your uncle!
