That's weird because everyone that is around me when I use mine, if any is detected, is one of vanilla and I have even had comments how nice is smells.

I quit about 2 years ago and then started using the Blu brand which were very convenient to use but expensive because you have to purchase the cartridges and God help you if you run out because, up until recently, they were only available online. You couldn't just go down to the corner store to get more like regular cigarettes.

I fell back into regular smokes (when I lost my job - stress I guess) but now quitting again. I have about 3 regular cigs a day but the rest of the time, I smoke my e-cig. I have a newer one that is refillable (sponge type) and I agree with you that it is annoying when you overfill and that liquid hits your lips but once you learn the nuances of each type, that can usually be avoided.

I do find it ironic the looks I get when I use it in a public place, you get all the same stares and indignation of regular cigarettes meanwhile the person doing all the judging has not experience one wiff of smoke.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with nicotine specifically. There are actually studies recently of the benefits of it. The problem with tobacco (particularly modern/mass produced cigarettes) is the delivery system. The tar and carbon monoxide is the crap that needs to be avoided.

Having quit once (the first time using the horrible lozenges) you can't successfully quit until you convince yourself that you are no longer a smoker and that anything you are using as a substitute is, in fact, a substitute. Until you draw that line in your mind, you will always be a smoker regardless of how many times you actually light up.

Went from 20+ per day to ecigs on 4 Jan 2011 and haven't had a tobacco cig since.
Don't see it as a means to quit the nicotine addiction, just an alternative that doesn't carry the harmful chemicals that you get from burning tobacco.
I can't say my tastebuds are different, though I am more susceptible to catching a cold. The biggest impacts of switching, for me at least, have been:
    - its vastly cheaper
-I don't need to plan 10 mins ahead of every train or car journey to give time for a smoke (I never smoked in the car but use the ecig now)

All in all, its not a replacement or means to quit, just an alternative without the health risks.

Nicotine is a poison, true, but buying liquid from reputable sources and smoking these normally you really have minimal risk. Excessive consumption would result in migraine headaches followed by severe vomiting long before any lasting damage would be done.

+1 on this. I never smoked in my car either, even when I smoked a lot. It's very liberating to be able to puff away while driving.

I just went cold turkey but a lot of people at work switched to e-cigs (though the office rules say it's not allowed inside still). Many of them only smoke the e-cig, occasionally some of them might smoke a normal cigarette if they run out of nicotine solution or the battery runs out.

I'm coming up to a year without a cigarette now. Unfortunately I only gave up because I decided I didn't have enough money to smoke, I really enjoyed smoking, I just had to give it up.

I thought about switching to the e-cig when I tried one at work, however, I couldn't quite get over the image of it. It's kind of like being "that guy" with the white iphone.

I had a guy the other day ask if he could smoke one in my cab (I drive taxi) and I said sure. I noticed my lips were feeling numb after about 10 mins of it. Not sure if it was the glycerin or the nicotine or what, but in a tightly closed space I certainly notice some second hand impacts.
