I got a Rift DK2 recently and one of the first games I thought of was Elite. Loaded it up and it looked stunning; the immersion in VR is incredible, even if things are a lot fuzzier with the DK2 than with monitors (or a retail Vive/Rift). You soon learn to see through the fuzziness though. I didn't play it for long because I was in a starbase and couldn't remember the controls - didn't want to get fined or anything!

Instead of learning to play with a 360 controller again, I went out and bought a cheap HOTAS setup today (the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4). My god... VR + HOTAS makes for an incredible experience in Elite.

I still think VR on the whole isn't worth the cost, but it really is worth getting a Rift DK2 just to play Elite. At ~£150 it's not much more than a decent 1080P monitor and it makes such a huge difference to immersion. I've spent about two hours today just flying around and jumping between systems, not really doing anything. I just hope that the community can somehow step in and keep it working if Oculus make the monumentally daft decision to completely drop support for the DK2.

I learned something this evening: do not go to Hutton Orbital.

Picked up a passenger contract to go to Hutton Orbital in Alpha Centauri. "Oh cool," I thought, "that's a star that's really near to Earth." Only when I got there did I realise that Hutton Orbital is 0.22LY - that's LY, not LS - from the arrival point.

I gave up after travelling in supercruise for about 30 minutes at over 1.700c. I've done a 208,000LS run but never a 6,942,672LS run. F- that.

Oh man, you took a Hutton Orbital contract? Nobody flies to Hutton Orbital if they can possibly avoid it! Why do you think you can buy this mug at every local spaceport:

I did. I didn't have system data for Alpha Centauri when I took the contract, so I couldn't see how far away from the arrival point it is. When I got there and saw 0.22ly I thought "eh, it'll be fine - I've done huge supercruise runs before, how bad can it be?" After I'd been cruising for over 30 minutes and had reached over 1,700c I started looking up how long it should take me to travel 0.22ly. Every single result I found was about Hutton Orbital and how damn long it takes to get there; I also learned that 0.22ly is 6,942,672ls.

I now know to avoid Hutton Orbital. Flying a 2 million credit passenger run to Hutton Orbital is not "easy money"*.

*Nor is taking on a mission to kill 18 pirates when Federal Security Service wings filled with Anacondas keep gunning me down despite me having scanned my targets fully and using a kill warrant scanner on them. That was an expensive lesson.

Every pilot must fly to Hutton orbital at least once. It's a great spot for pilot meets too, pirates being pirates they can never be bothered to fly that far out.

Is the Horizons Season Pass worth getting?

I gave up on ED around the time it was announced, it was just soooooo boring. Have the updates added much game play or is it still 95% travelling, 5% pew pew?

I would personally say if you didn't like it before Horizons you won't like it now.

I want to love it, I really, really, really do, because it so SO BEAUTIFUL in VR. But I just don't.

Horizons add's some decent stuff to the game but it also add's a lot of grinding for hours to days at a time.

Most of the stuff has been shown that is included within the Horizons DLC but there is still more coming which has not even been mentioned or even hinted at.

To be honest I have not played the game in a while but I am just waiting for this whole "Alien" thing to kick off in whichever way it goes.

Well multi crew has been ruined already by trolls.

You can join someones ship and if they have SCB's you can just spam them and cause there ship to overheat and take some serious damage apparently according to the ED forums.

One person has done it to people who were out exploring heading towards Beagle Point.

I understand it in combat but seriously stupid on someone who is exploring.

I have my 4A fuel scoop, my 1C advanced discover scanner, and my wealthy passengers tucked up comfortably in their luxury passenger cabin.

Strap in back there, there's a long ol' way to go.

I give it a few days before I get bored of doing a 26,000LY trip.

    Obvious question is obvious.

Does the ship's owner not have the ability to kick 'guest' crew members? That's a pretty basic oversight if true.

Jeez... 7,800LY out and I feel no closer to my destination! If I've time I might swing by Colonia - it's on my way (relatively speaking).

Yeah I would have thought that this would be a thing...

Yeah they can but the damage would have been done, although Frontier are working on a fix to stop people being able to do it.

Decided I am going to work on getting Elite in Trading but I am doing it in a way that is going to cost me a lot of money at the end of it.

Sat at Robigo picking up smuggle slave missions and then abandoning them and selling the slaves on the black market.

Needed around 650m cr to hit elite and I have currently need to get around 500m cr.

I have a fine at the moment in the region of 150m to 200m cr that I will need to pay off once I am finished, and I have worked it out that I am going to have about 40m cr left in my balance once I have finished.

Then I am going to hit Elite in exploration as I only need 9% on that which is simple, I will just take a quick trip out to the Formidine Rift area and back and then that should be done.

I've hit Tycoon in Trading, just 93% to go to Elite

    The important thing is -

    a) I can save and quit around my available time
    b) I'm enjoying it once again :thumb:

Well I finally hit Elite but I have been a naughty boy, and it's going to take abit of extra grinding to get the extra credits to pay it off.
