Shall we write a basic guide to joysticks?

I was going to do one when CIG finally give us a BitSec forum, as anything just gets buried atm.

However, I have been thinking about running a separate website and forum to be honest - if we're covering ED and SC it only makes sense to have an unbiased, shared community?

£48 is pretty pricey, but it's in stock. Saying that, it's a bloody excellent stick.

Scan have it for £35.35, but on pre-order. Dabs have it for £31.99, but again on backorder.

Yeah, T-1600M seems to be flavour of the month. No-one can keep stock of them ATM.

Not to turn this in to a "my game is better than your game argument" and I know Elite is Beta compared to Star Citizens Alpha status but Elite feels a lot nicer in the motion of ship movement. Was nice to have the opportunity to compare a bit, really look forward to have a Joystick again to test them both.

I think both are massively improved with a joystick to the point of both being excellent (taking in to account design decisions such as ED's low yaw rate) - but with a mouse and keyboard they're both horrible, but SC possibly more so.

Still can't contemplate how people play these games without a HOTAS though :p Nothing better than slamming the throttle forward and hitting the hyperspace button.

It is shockingly expensive for a beta game.

Is the X55 a good choice for a HOTAS?

Looks good to me. Lots of switches, but in design not an exact replica of an existing fighter jet control set, so it can be used universally. And its style is quite ELITE-ish.

There are lots of reviews on YouTube, including a few testing it with ELITE: Dangerous.

Yes, the X55 is a good choice. It's a modern (basically brand new) HOTAS with twist stick that can be locked if you add pedals. It also has changeable springs to set resistance levels.

Only problem is finding a UK copy that isn't stupidly expensive.

I'm going to take a look around then, I may as well get something decent as I've been waiting for a new Elite for longer than I care to remember.

edit1: what about the X52? I know it's older but the price is more palatable.

edit2: I've opted for a X52 Pro, decent price and decent reviews. Not as good as the X55 but it's half the price and, after watching a few videos, I'm sure it will be fine for my needs.

I have the X52 Pro. Great stick. Elite has a built in profile too! You are in for a treat! :thumb:
