Not really interested in the card myself but will keep my eyes open and buy a truckload if I spot them!

That being a fairly unlikely scenario, if anyone wants/needs a wingman on the way into godel ring, hit me up and I'll try to join, if only to frustrate a griefer or two. Hell, I'd be tempted to keep shipping them in there in sidewinders just to taunt the buggers and self destruct if a hatch limpet so much as scratches my radar. Rinse and repeat to upset the hell out if the griefers.

    It's an interesting dilemma!

I'd rather they blow me out of the sky than sacrifice my cargo to pirates. If I did find the goods the knowledge of the retail station would still be with me anyway. I'd just be hunted like a dog if word got out! :D

The Clipper is a lovely cargo ship, well armed enough to deal with most (npc) interdictions and fast enough to run from those it can't. I'd much rather take a vulture into combat though.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind with it though. First, the wing span! I clipped so many things when I forgot how wide it was at the back. Then there are the directional thrusters, they are hopeless which makes docking a more involved task than it would be in mot other ships.

    Curiosity killed the GravitySmacked...

I'm very glad this competition started when I was almost 2000LY away form populated space, the certainty of not getting there in time even if I turned around on the spot has saved me the stress of hunting and blockade running.

No chance to fly but managed to quickly log in and see where I posted at the end of the Spear of Lugh. Top 70% so really happy with a 7mill payout.

I finally got around to jumping in and giving Elite a run... only took me 4 months since installing it to actually get around to it.

It'll take me a little while to figure out what I'm doing in the game, I think more or less I've sussed out how to set a destination and warp there. I've not worked out the proper mechanics of the game (combat missions, trade and so on) but there's plenty of time for that. I did fly into a low intensity combat zone where a mission was meant to be but I was torn apart by two players the second I dropped into the zone so didn't get a chance to try shoot anything.

I really like how the game handles with the X52, though I might need to get a little addon device like the Logitech G13 or Razer Tartarus in the place of a keyboard for the few bits I need assigned to a keypad.

Think I've added most of the people from the commander names topic, so hopefully we can all wing up at some point.

Four hundred billion systems in the galaxy and you guys gotta walk inta mine

3'500LY and change from populated space now, so naturally I've bumped into two other players during today's flight.

Deep space explorers at least seem to be a much nicer and more socially minded bunch than the 'pirates' hanging around community events. I don't think any of us were packing interdictors anyway.

I also did the maths on my planned exploration route, at the rate I'm covering right now (roughly 600LY a day) it's going to take me until the middle of July (the 17th to be exact) to re-enter populated space.

Maybe a 70'000LY round trip was a tad ambitious, ah well, too late to turn back now
It's worth playing through the single player tutorials, they're not fantastic tutorials but they cover stuff like short range navigation and landing.

Be interested how you get on with a gamepad. I've not ditched the keyboard yet as it comes in handy for text comms.

Would move away from LHS 3447 fairly quickly. There's a whole galaxy out there and some unsavoury types like to hang out in the start systems and stroke their e-peen by shooting players in the starter ships when you have better things to do.

Are you CMDR Suenstar in game?

I've done a couple of the tutorials, I'll have a quick run through each one to make sure I've got everything down.
Probably wasn't the wisest of choices for me to instantly jump into the open play for my first flight, it might have been worthwhile doing a 30-40 minute solo play.

I'll likely be picking something near to the 12th April when I'm close to pay day.
I'll still have a keyboard nearby for text communication, but hopefully won't need it directly in arms reach at all times.

Definitely get the feeling that the guys lurking in the combat zone were doing exactly that...
I think I docked up at the McMahon station in Evarate 4 after the incident with the griefers.
Any recommendations for a good place to head to for starting out where you can test the waters with a few different activities?

Look for a good high tech home. Later in game you'll want to buy new ships, upgrades and the like. Not having to trek around searching for things is nice. Have a think about if you might want to base in fed or imperial space too.

Recommendation from a couple pages back...

What is the nearest Alliance system to the LHS 3447 cluster?

Also can players drive a faction change to create something like the Empire outpost that is Llaiedin?

Round two of having a swing at the game, this time I figured I'd go a bit safer and practice in the solo mode after running through a few more tutorials.

After a bit of trial and error, I worked out how to fly to a mission area and scanned down a Black Box that needed to be picked up (only worth around 14,000 but it's a start). On the way back I figured I'd drop into a few extra unidentified signals en-route and managed to drop into one where I found a wanted pilot in an Eagle.
At first I was a little bit unsure of whether to do anything as I wasn't sure of the Sidewinder's combat abilities against it, but it turned out to be an extremely easy fight and added an extra 5,000 income... although a Federation ship scanned me during the fight and decided to fine me about 3,000 as the Black Box was illegal.

I did read on a site about a fuel scoop to enable refilling at some stars, but I'm guessing that's a module that you need to buy and fit on your ship and not one that starts off on the Sidewinder.

I'll have a look at gradually moving over towards that Arth system, I don't think I'll do a direct flight as it looks far away and I won't have enough fuel to do it in a single trip.

Gutted!!! Rajukru rare spawns have been nerfed. has only served up 16 and no more supply :(

You probably could but it would mean finding a system with a minor faction affiliated with the alliance, then doing only missions that would benefit them, look up the "Lets test this persistent world" thread on FD forums for more info on the mechanics of what they did in Lugh.
Lot of effort but it can be done.

Yep, fuel scoops are purchaseable modules but remember they cannot scoop from all stars so make sure you plan the journey around the yellow fellas for scooping.

P.S. make sure to pay off your fine or it will turn into a kill on sight bounty

Many deaths yesterday. Run after run was interdicted and over the course of a few hours I never cashed in once and made a significant loss. Might have to play some solo mode until the rage subsides.

Out of interest where is this occurring and what are the interdictors flying? I may have to forgo a system upgrade and buy a Vulture to pay the system a visit with.

If it's any consolation when you get further into space players are more... legit? I've been pirated once recently, and the chap very fair, for a pirate.
I had no choice other than too pay his ransom mind you since I was running with a small shield and no weapons.

Thanks to that guide posted by one of you from nutter, I managed to refit my asp and did an exploration run down to the witches head nebula and then into orion nebula. Was doing 35-37 ly per jump.

2600 ly there and back. using an advanced scanner and detailed service scanner I scanned every system and sun on the outbound but only system wide scans on the way back.

Made about 850k and exploration rank and was glad to experience it at least once. Every system I entered had already been discover so no special mentions.
But for the 3-4 hours it took me I could have made 4 times that in rare trades.

So GMC, let talk wings soon. Now I got exploration out of my system I'm ready to go back into open play.

I always play solo when trading rates, being ganked at the end of a long run isn't fun at all.

I have bought myself a Vulture as I found the Cobra ammo hungry. What is the best place to outfit a Vulture? I couldn't see Gimble'd Pulse Lasers (Class 3;D I think I am looking for on my budget!)
