Seems like a nice spot so might think about setting up an empire home. We'll see. Missions should give me a feel for the local area. Two empire factions in close contention for the system at the moment with just under 40% influence each, figure I can take missions from both and not just stick to the one in charge to rep up. Loving the short SC distance though and CZs abound for combat.

Couple times recently in my asp i've spotted vulture PCs in SC and when I turn to face them they drop out of SC? (Need to turn to face to scan and see if they are packing interdictors. Prefer to avoid that whole scenario while in SC if possible.

Also, Tarach spice appears to be illegal in fed space, another one I had to smuggle into a few stations before selling. Getting the hang of the smuggling lark, just needs some prep outside and silent running, though I tend to use the whole mail slot in my hurry to get through!
Ouch, did you have to self destruct? Did that in my adder shortly after buying it and was gutted. Promptly named the replacement the 'Second Chance'.

    Anyone else naming their ships?

Did ship naming get implemented or is that a personal thing?

No problem! Just a shame they haven't implemented ship to ship refueling! Word of advice, plan your journeys and if using a fuel scoop only star types O, B, A, F, G, K, and M can be scooped. Easy way to remember this with the phrase...'Oh, Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me'.

I did have to self destruct, but it wasn't too painful as I was flying in the starting Sidewinder with no enhancements so the ordeal cost 0 credits.
I was only 6-7 systems from my last station as well, so didn't lose too much ground.

It's interesting that you can't type in chat whilst the Self Destruct sequence is running, though I guess it's logical if all your systems are frying that you can no longer communicate.

I wasn't aware that you could name your ships, is that on the right hand systems panel?

I'd likely find it harder to remember that phrase than just the letters. I'll probably keep the list of usable stars on a bit of paper.

It would be really useful if a ship could carry some fuel in their cargo hold and then drop a canister for another ship to scoop, or perhaps they could implement a coupling device so a fellow player with something like a transport ship can tow a stranded ship back to safety.

No, its just me. Maybe i'm wierd thatbway but there was a lot of conversation earlier and fd had some cool ideas about named ships gaining reputation independently, acting as a boost for the commander rep.

Surprised nobody else is naming their ships for rp purposes

    Love the mnemonic.

So I tested Assassination missions in a wing. Now we did not test this by picking up new missions while already in a wing but for the missions already on my mates mission list, it seems that both of you get an equal bounty 177k each for the first take down we did but only the mission owner get's the main cash reward for turning it in and the reputation gain.

Finding the targets together is also a bit odd, essentially you need to wait for the mission owner to identify the correct USS for his mission then you can drop into it with him. If you hit the USS first, it will update any missions that you have active, even if your missions are in a system 145 LY away....!

Think they need a bit of work on them, although it was really fun to do a co-op takedown on an anaconda in a cobra & a viper.

Not going to lie, despite my misgivings about the MMO-lite nature and the fact that you still can't land on planets I've been following this thread with quite some jealousy. It all sounds so much fun. I doubt I'll ever play the proper version (given that I'd need an entirely new PC and to run Windows on said PC) but I may end up getting the console version. 'Course, it's an Xbox One exclusive while No Man's Sky (the other game to catch my eye of late) is a PS4 exclusive, which is terribly annoying. Will probably have to wait for reviews to see which direction I take.

It's a massive sandbox with no where near enough sand and was probably released 6 months too early, yet somehow the game play is incredibly addictive! Also, surprisingly the game is enhanced by co-op buddies in such a large brutal galaxy.

I 'pancaked' a station landing last night, slammed strait into the armour block around the 'mail slot' on the station, 80% odd hull damage big repair bill and the trapping that come with it. Yet instead of being annoyed I had a little chuckle about the fact that it's always the tasks you do a million times over that you balls up! :)

I upgraded to an Asp Explorer last night; I love the cockpit field of view and the engine sounds are awesome.

With regard to naming your ships, I wasn't aware that had been implemented? I know they talked about it in development though.

Oh, so it is - I'd missed that. Well, that makes life easier: wait until the PS4 version comes out, then buy a PS4 with Elite: Dangerous and No Man's Sky. That should keep me occupied until the Xbox Two and PS5 come out!

The cockpit and seating position on the ASP are a joy to behold! if only I had track IR to make the most of it.

The ASP is a great ship! With a class 5 shield you can manage 96 tons of Cargo (only 4 less than a shielded type 6) and it handles nicely, with some excellent forward facing firepower and an FSD that dreams are made of.

    Enjoy!

Shame there's no Linux version for you, Gareth (although I don't know what the spec of your Linux set up is or would have enough grunt, but it's a moot point in any case).

AMD A10-5800K APU, no discrete graphics. So, even with the presence of a Linux version it'd be highly unlikely to run - hence my looking at buying a £250 console rather than a £250 graphics card, £80 motherboard, £100 CPU, £80 PSU and so forth.

That's fair enough :) Could you stick a GPU into your Linux box, if a Linux version was to materialise?

Potentially, yes: there's a spare PCIe-x16 slot on the motherboard, although I can't remember how big the PSU is so that might need upgrading too. I reckon it'll be a long time before Frontier started thinking about Linux support, though - long after the Xbone/PS4 launches, if ever. Which is just as well, 'cos I don't have £250 to spend on a console or a graphics card at the moment!

I hear you :D Agreed that a Linux version doesn't look too likely in the near future, more's the pity.
