Nice Clipper shots GMC! Om nom nom.

How does it fly? Done any combat in it yet?

I had a little bit of luck last night, went on my first assassination mission in my vulture. It was actually decent fun in the vulture, helped a lot by the large hardpoints and great manoeuvrability of the Vulture I'm sure.

Mission payout was 189k, the bounty on the target was 294k and I got interdicted 3 times by hostile AI on rout to the USS sites, adding another 200k to the pot! Not bad for half an hours effort.

    Sounds lucrative!

So far I've been interdicted twice - both Pythons. Once while using debug cam so down to half shields by the time I knew what was going on. Full boost and away at 400.

Second python I had one joust with. I went down to 1 shield ring, he went down to 2. I'm underarmed and under armoured, as that was with d class shields and 3 boosters.
Running 4 pulse lasers but the plan is large bursts and med cannons.

Thrusters are awful at D class but the turn rate on this is amazing. I swear it yaws almost as fast as the asp pitched when I bought it!

The boost is a joy, but in a very different way to the feral and brutal rasp you get with the ASP. It's a gorgeous rushing wind effect followed by some amazing ethereal howling type noises, hence my choice of name. Bad explanation probably but it's very cool.

Getting more comfortable with docking but made the mistake last night of rolling too early on entry to the station and smashing the nacelles into the letterbox.

Other news, I've sorted out my rare circuit to highlight potentially illicit goods, not faction affiliation for systems, and details sales options at first station over 140, 160, 180 and furthest system. Anyone wants a copy, PM me with your email addy and I'll send through the Excel file.

Yeah a bit of random luck - to reclaim the previous loss.

Clipper sounds ok 'out of the box' or cheaply upgraded. Not all ships are. Glad your liking it so far!

I can't be bothered to grind the empire rank for the clipper so am going to stay on the path to the Fer-De-Lance. Maybe trying one of those events everyone has been talking about or maybe get a Corbra specifically for running illegal goods like onion-head.

    Pm'd for Rare circuit, ta.

Here's a few starter tips from a relatively new player...

Do the training missions, they really do help.

If you're planning on playing in Open Play mode, then get away from the starter system as like my unfortunate experience, you might find yourself getting killed a couple of bored people who enjoy ruining the game for others.

Pay attention to your fuel, as you may end up unable to jump to a system where a station is located (alternatively, fit a fuel scoop to your ship)... in this scenario, the only option is to self destruct. The next big update is hopefully going to fix this with players being given the ability to refuel their friends.

If you're bounty hunting: scan, read scan, then shoot... never shoot before confirming the target is wanted. I've messed up on that far too many times. :D
If you want to bounty hunt, then the easiest places to spot targets is at Nav Beacons and Resource Extraction Sites.

Don't worry too much about accidents or deaths while you're flying in the starting Sidewinder with no upgrades, as it doesn't cost any money to replace. I've been finding it best to make as many mistakes as possible while in this ship, so I learn from them before going to a ship that'll require money to replace.

If you pick up cargo, check if it is a) illegal and b) stolen as when you're flying near a station with it in your bay, you may end up with a fine. If you're carrying illegal cargo, it's often a good idea to try to get docked up as quickly as you can. :)

credit where it is due, that was an amazing experience, I just tried the game, combat mission advanced training, its the third mission you vs a good pilot same level ship.

Went back and forth, then he came in head on and lazered through my front window, the cabin air flushed through the window, the acoustics changed in my headphones as if it was really a vacuum ship cockpit, heart beat of the pilot went up and then finally a few more shots taken and the ship blew up. might be the best most polished experience I have seen in the dk2, late to the party and its a cliché, but wow its a great experience, nice that SC has some thing to aim for..

I didn't know you could break your window until my first dog fight with a (can't remember) in an Eagle. It cracked and I thought "oh, guess I'm about to die." To my surprise, when it blew out, I was still alive, and looking at my ships stats, it was pretty much fully in tact. I had 7 minutes to get back to a space station that I could definitely land in. I believe, from memory, I made it through the door with 14 seconds to spare.

Smuggling is fun also. Fly out, turn everything off. Let it freeze. Turn your engines on quickly and boost to full speed from 15 20+ out. Turn off flight assist and your engines and just drift, hurtle towards those doors. When close enough request docking. Just as you pass through the door, turn the engines back on and flight assist. All this may be totally unnecessary, but it sure is tense, & fun. P.s. never been scanned doing this. Like I've not been noticed.

My version of smuggling is less intense.
Get roughly lined up to the mail slot from about 7 clicks out. Just inside dock request distance. Request docking permission, 2 pips to engines, hit boost and full speed. As soon as a circling ship goes solid on radar hit silent running, throttle down where needed to pilot in through doorway between 100 and 180 depending on confidence. Turn off silent running as soon as inside. Dock at leisure.

Did it in the clipper today, bit nervous getting something that size in the mail slot at speed  but all worked out.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I don't need to do the above. But there is nothing quite like hurtling towards the entrance at 300, window frozen up, flight assist off, no shields, breathing through a mask. Does require a good aim in the initial boost though.

Give it a go. I did it once and flew into the side though; killed myself. :duh: Maybe I ought to play it a little more safe... ??? nah

Thinking about it I should probably do what you do though. Kind of the point of the engine heat absorption thing.

You got the points on me for bravery but I doubt my bank balance could handle enough rebuys for me to practice enough. Might give it a shot in the docking tutorial sometime though...

Ever tried flying letting your ship drift into the station backwards at full speed?
That's always a fun one to try when you want to risk smashing your ship against the side of the station, I attempted it a few times after watching a Twitch broadcaster do it to perfection in his Vulture.

Luckily I'm still in my Sidewinder so it doesn't cost much when I fail. :hehe:

Starting to make better money in my Sidewinder now that I've switched the weapons and have turned to hunting wanted pilots. I'm mostly finding other Sidewinders and Eagles around my hunting spot at Tara, almost everyone I see there is wanted (possibly due to the system having a black market) with a bounty of 40-70k.
With any luck I'll be on 600k by Sunday so I can purchase a ship with full upgrades then with roughly enough to cover insurance.

Also aiming to get my Voice Attack all setup for Elite at the end of this week, possibly with the addition of a voice pack for responses.

Going to be getting a Viper with mostly D rated fittings and a full rack of burst lasers for now with a plan to upgrade to C rating and some beam lasers later on.

I'm mostly flying in the systems between Tara and Arth for combat and the occasional bit of illegal trade to the black market when there's some cargo around.
For bigger trade profit, I travel between Sui Guei and Tara.

At the moment I have the Sidewinder for combat and the Adder for small trade.

All new players should read this:
    https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=118364

@suenstar, you're about halfway between tiolce and cd-75 661. (I navigate by rare sites)

Add me in game (GMac) and if you're online next time I'm in either area I'll drop off a few travelled rares for you - to help get you into the viper and out of the Sidey. :thumb:

Thanks. I've bumped up my faction from 5% to 17% in the last five days. Funnily two other minor factions have started a civil war against each other.

:duh: Looks like I may have added a totally random person to my contact list then, I was going by the list in first post of the CMDR names topic which had you down as CMDR GMC.

I'll be on again tomorrow evening so will correct my contacts when I jump on then.
I normally play Elite on Thursdays and Saturdays.

So still getting the hang of this...first ship very cautiously trying to land, too cautious in fact and took too long and was blown up by the station defences!
Sidewinder 2 - not cautious enough. Smashed it into the mailbox!
Sidewinder 3 - cracked the screen on way out, came back and got it repaired then blown up after exiting by the defence ship for no obvious reason.
    Sidewinder 4 - crashed
Sidewinder 5 - ran out of fuel and had to self destruct
    Sidewinder 6 - see Sidewinder 5

So far though I'm still rated as Harmless when in fact there should be a special category - "Danger to yourself":sigh:
