    Hey guys

not sure if this is the correct area to post, if not could a mod please move. thanks.

As usual we all receive junk mail right, all the scam stuff that we just delete as soon as we spot it out. Over the past month or so I've received 2 emails which highlight that they are from myself. Basically the sender name which would normally appear with the name of the sender, appears with my email address.

When looking at the email (not opening) it says from 'My Email' to 'My Email'.

Does this mean someone is sending an email from my account? i.e; has access OR is it possible for these 'scammers/junk mail artists' to just somehow put their sender name as the recipent email address to make it look like it is from me?

Just a little concerned thats all - wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing?

    Cheers guys,
    cool_dude

This is indeed possible. They typically do this so they don't have to deal with any replies to the original email, and to make themselves harder to track down. Usually the spammer is smart enough not to send emails to the address they're spoofing, but nothing surprises me.

yes its very easy to change the sender address, i was playing around with Mailing in Java and it is scarily easy to send massive amounts of email with very little code.
