What about HD's that are already formated and have data on them? plug n play? Or do you have to format it?

Cool little device, may have to grab one eventually.

    :)

Got one ordered, should be with me in a few days. My wife is going to love setting this thing up.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is one of those things that takes off on the modding side depending on what people can get to run on it.

I see that it doesn't run NTFS, only FAT32 and "linux" format. That kind of sucks. I really like the concept of an all-in-one device for those "little tasks" that keep your PC on all day, but the limitations just make me want to turn off my fans and underclock.

Its a linux box why would it run NTFS? ext3 is at least an equal to NTFS and since its a network device and not a USB device why would you care what the underlying hard drive format is?

slower than I thought it would be LAN wise, although I dont know if that's because i'm running it through two homeplugs (through the house mains) which are both on extension leads, so they're not getting their top speeds. I'm also running it off a flash drive rather than a hard drive, which I imagine will make it even slower.

Probably better to ask someone who's running their machine directly to the router and using a proper drive.

Cause I don't intend on keeping my hard drive permanently affixed to it, and since NTFS is the standard for drives these days on Windows, NTFS would almost be considered a requirement for the majority of people to make proper use of the device.

this device looks like the perfect way to share a printer and an HDD over the home LAN - It seems to be the cheapest solution to that problem ,even without the BT client.

Anyone know if it handles multi-funtion printers - ie can you scan over the LAN from a printer/fax/scanner ?

Slewis, Scuzz - sorry I've no idea, the product has since been returned after we reviewed it.

Several major problems with this device:
    - There is a blog on the net that suggests a firmware upgrade, but I struggled to find the download!
    - The same blog suggests you can put any Linux distro on the machine, but not as firmware, instead it would be a usermode linux type thing (unsure).
    - 10GB minimum (wtf) as per previous comments is true
    - Only natively formatted disks.
    - Mine was unreliable so I returned it. This may have been my specific box, but I've read others have the exact problem: it will stream data to an HTPC for a while and then cut out.

Bought myself a second hand NSLU2 and I'm loving it!

    All the best.

I don't see why you'd need to take your firewall down for the bt client.. just forward the port you want to use

and the split usb cables aren't really needed with usb 2.0.. also you could start torrents if you left a rig on (but then that defeats the whole point of buying this for me) with remote desktop- this is a cool little device for peeps who can't setup a network.. not being able to access the torrents remotely out the lan is kinda strange- maybe they figure it's saving you from yourself as you also won't be running any blacklists (which is not a good idea anyhow- especially nowdays)
