My GE Cordless Phone finally died. Bought a new model, DECT6.0 - has some nice features but you can't go through answer machine msgs from the handset. Anyway, the biggest gripe: No way to disable ringer for the Base Unit!! You can disable the ringer in the handset. But, short of unplugging the phone line(which plugs in underneath the thing so you'd have to pick it up off the table and turn it over to do that.. very awkward!) there is no way to stop the ringing!!! I don't think I've ever seen a phone that didn't have a ringer switch on it someplace. I just spent 3 hours setting up this PITA unit and now I don't know if I can take the ENDLESS RINGING!!! Is it just me or is this stuff designed to piss you off? I mean, why no On/Off switch for the ringer? I don't suppose there's an "easter egg" to disable it? It's a model 27909
is that it? I don't know if it will give you an option to turn just the base ringer off but try this: Ringer On/Off 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode). 2. Press the mute/clear/ringer on/off button to switch the ringer on or off. NOTE: If you turn the ringer OFF, RINGER OFF shows in the display. Otherwise, their customer services line is 1.800.448.0329 Good luck man, had that same problem a while back with mine (but a different brand/model) and it drove me nuts. When there's a base ringing it's really hard to find a handset lol.
Looks like it. As I said, those instructions only turn off the ringer in the hand set. The other brilliant piece of engineering is the connector for the phone line is underneath the phone. So they give you this 4" phone line to get clear of the underside of the phone, but they don't give you a telephone line coupler to use with it! Had to buy one at the Shack today. It's a shame because I do like the feature that the Caller ID time stamp resets the date & time for the clock and answer machine. Biggest pain on my old phone was resetting the time whenever the power went out for 5 seconds. The phone must use static ram because none of the other settings are lost(I tried unplugging for about 5 minutes to see which settings got dropped.) Sound quality is good. The only 2 things I don't like are not being able to kill the ringer and you cannot review your messages from the hand set. You have to press the buttons on the base unit(or call from another phone doing the "remote access" schtick.) edit: Ok so with the connector being on the underside of the phone so that you have to turn the phone upside down to connect the power or phone lines, I guess that makes 3 things that suck.
