I've been always into Energy drinks especially lately seeming its the only thing i can find in the college shop Monster, Relentless, Rockstar, Red Rooster, No Fear Everyone says to me "Yeh i have one and im wide awake" i have the opposite effect everytime! i have one or two and im nackered.... i have no energy, I could literally go to bed right then I think i've found out the problem.... its more of a loss of energy than tiredness but im pretty sure my heart slows down!!?? Im knew there not great for your health and all but im really thinking i should avoid them from know on... has anyone else had these effects
Haven't had such effect, and staying off the stuff sounds like an excellent plan. I used to drink loads back in school, I think it's more the coldness and the sugar than anything else that gives you the boost. Also the psychological effect... Anyway for me they did give a short buzz when I stayed awake, lost even the last bits of attention to what ever the teacher was saying and planned something random on my own. Not really the ideal effect, but I did prefer that over falling asleep and waking up in a pool of drool with the teacher shouting something. After the school I've only drank a couple when I need to stay awake (on the road) or need the buzz to motivate myself to finish something. And every now and then with vodka. EDIT: Also I've noticed they don't really make me stay awake as much as they prevent me from sleeping. Same with coffee, I still feel tired, but when I try to hit the bed, all sorts of stuff just start running around my head and I can't seem to relax.
I used to drink them. I found that you have a high for a while then you get a sugar crash. You feel even worse than you did before. I find something like water or orange juice is more benifical. You also feel Like sh*t after energy drinks in the way it kind of upsets your stomach. I also noticed if i drank a can of monster i would have spots and just poor skin in general for a few days. Stick to something like orange juice/oasis/snapple
Your heart rate shouldn't be going down if there's an active ingredient in there. Many energy drinks, though, have nothing stimulating to speak of in them besides an assload of sugar. You may be experiencing a crash/withdrawl. Never really seen the point of them, to be honest. Good after a run, or after the gym, or if you're really sick/hungover, but I wouldn't drink them as a 'normal' drink, because you're just going to get fat.
Same feeling I try to drink water as much as i can but energy drinks always pop out to me, i think i will try stopping from now on and stock up on bottled water in the boot of my car Im pretty sure its not safe effects especially when im driving Im pretty sure im on the deepest part of the sugar low now because im suddenly very cold and weak £1.20 a can for this crap
The worst thing is that water is more expensive I don't get it. It all come from the same place. You would think the goverment would empanelment cheaper water in shops to encourage healty eating.
Energy Drinks knock me out cold. I never get the sugar rush, only the crash, and within about 10 min I am sound asleep after just one.
slightly related - anybody know a place that does cheap Monster? Local shops have all started charging £2 for 1 can There was a time i could of got a can for about 80p
Oddly enough a side effect of caffeine in some people is actually the feeling of being tired. Generally in most people it should give the 'buzz' its known for. The problem with energy drinks is that they are full of simple sugars which are meant to hold out until the caffeine kicks in (20-30 minutes after imbibing the drink) but in those of us who caffeine affects adversely, this serves in doubling the 'crash', so to speak. You lose the sugar high, and then get hit by the caffeine drained/tired symptoms as well. If you are going to have an energy drink, the sugar-free red bulls are reasonable, but generally one shouldn't have too many (definitely not more than one a day). I've found the level of caffeine some of the drinks have in them can seriously upset your digestion if you're drinking them on an empty stomach. Keep in mind that caffeine significantly hinders certain nutrient absorption too, so if you do ingest a red bull (or whatever) try and have it after a meal. Iirc, vitamin B and iron absorption suffers quite a bit when consumed with reasonable amounts of caffeine.
I'm diabetic (so those things are out for me) and I can always tell when my sugar is too high, i start to get a bit sleepy so be careful with getting too much sugar in you even if you are healthy. Mind you, the smell of Red Bull is enough to turn me green so I don't think I am missing much, well apart from the nectar that is original lucozade.......
Where do you buy your water?? 2ltr Riverrock is cheaper than a can of any energy drink round here. I do love Monster...yellow and orange in particular. Makes me poop funny though, especially if I use them as an all-nighter aid.
All i know is i still feel like complete crap and im pretty sure the drink is to blame (could be other stuff i guess) Its almost the same feeling i get when im hungover and don't get a headache but just generally feel really bad
See my avatar. The only energy drink worth drinking. Imported stuff is luuurrrrvely but the UK equivalent (Mountain Dew Energy) is more than adequate. Keeps you wired but I haven't found it causes any side effects.
My brother drinks coke cola, loads and loads of it. Like I got back after a weekend and there were 40 cans on the table. He plays a lot of COD though. Personally I can't stand the smell / taste of energy drinks and will have a beer instead of that heinous "vodbull" stuff. Energywise....I get a good nights sleep beforehand, and a full fat breakfast.
I kinda like energy drinks, red bull and realtree blaze orange are my 2 favorites The red bull does have a funny taste but in a good way and the realtree is more of a soda than an energy in my mind.
