Once i get the smart meter in I plan to switch to octopus. By that time I should have home assistant setup here. I'm still debating going the VM or proper rpi route. At my mums I use an rpi but I've not fully moved out of there yet so still need it there.

I use it in a VM. I'm not sure if it's a limitation with the hypervisor (TrueNAS Scale) or just a feature of USB passthrough in general, but I need to pass through an entire USB controller just to use one port so I can hook up a Zigbee dongle. I plan to move it to an RPi, running on bare metal will be a lot more flexible in regards to hooking up external devices.

I had gone the other way. Used it in RPi initially and moved to x86 for consolidation, this means VW's. GPU and Coral passthrough for Frigate was difficult to set up. Luckily I had no problem for other stuff, Combee 2 stick and now SkyConnect plus a few different bluetooth dongle.

Whether single x86 machine doing job of 3 RPi's is more energy efficient is up to debate.....

My x86 machine definitely isn't more efficient than multiple Pi's, because it's a rackmount Dell R210 II!

Man upgraded power connection to his home at his own expense.

What’s news worthy or topical about this? It happens regularly with EV chargers and looped supply. Except for EV charger, resident doesn’t foot the bill, so there may be outcry if PM does this.

I just thought it seemed pretty excessive? The fact it literally required the grid upgrading due to his excess?

Isn't supposed to be promoting less is more and save the planet and all that jazz?

It just shows how far removed his is from you and I?

I didn't know you could get a supply upgrade for an EV charger (without paying for it, that is), seems you can also get them for ground source heat pumps. It seems odd that air source wasn't also included but I've only just briefly read the first page I've found on the subject so this might not actually be true.

Because Bit-Tech, Rishi surely should have heated his pool this way!
Not sure how much juice a WM sized tiny data centre needs, but a great idea to use the heat for something useful. One should be in every leisure centre with a pool in the country :thumb:
IIRC, Linus Sebastian is trying something similar in his home build.

This popped up on our local BBC news a while ago. Seems like a great idea to me too.

It's just the optics of the whole situation. Yes he paid for it himself and he didn't get any preferential treatment, but it's the extreme disparity in what the prime minister enjoys compared to the rest of us.

It also shows the person shaping policy for everyone on energy prices is totally unaffect by those energy prices increasing! So its massively alarming!

Some one in that position pushing poorly thought out net zero policies builds high energy consumer at home and ignores renewable at home, surprises me not, though I guess being listed he couldn't get council planning permission for anything that might make it energy efficient as is not in keeping with the area.

I missed that angle. Thanks for pointing it out.

I personally think given whatever excuse, I’d also have upgraded to 3-phase (guessing that was the work done). But that’s just me who likes time-of-use tariff, battery and micro generation.

Data centre heated swimming pool is brilliant idea!

Well well, OPEC cutting oil output again.... Incoming price rises. UK still buying Russian Oil by proxy. Even Japan is buying Russian Oil above the sanction price.

Are we still getting the £66 from the government to help out with the energy bills as I normally get it at the start of the month.

In my mind it was around April, and I got the payment on the 2nd March but haven't had it yet so I reckon it's come to an end?

I've had all six payments / deductions, so it's all over.

Disparity? The man is rich so there will always be disparity with those who work hard and those who do not.

He did nothing wrong with his own money.
