I know it isn't because well I can hear it when it's on!
Unfortunately Nest app only shows heating boiler usage in its history and not hot water boiler usage.

Are your figures with a hot water tank or do you have a electric shower because they're vastly below mine!

Plan is to switch the boiler off for 24 hrs and see if the meter budges as the tank is big enough to do a shower or 2 without a top up. In our last house we discovered that the meter was ticking over even with the gas isolated prior to the meter! They sent it off and it was so out of spec we got a massive refund

Yup no tank as Combi with on demand and we use electric shower mostly.

You'll wanna get a Harvi to add to your Zappi, or is it eddi that heats up the water?

AHH so not a like for like gas use case. Electric shower will massively reduce gas usage and combi also.

Plan is to add an Eddi to go with the zappi in the near future. Just need to get past current bill pain

    Okay something is definitely faulty.
Can anyone spot where I switched the boiler off at the wall?

This boiler doesn't have a pilot light (to the best of my knowledge). This morning I noticed that after heating the hot water the boiler pump kept running well after the hot wster schedule stopped and the boiler was making some noise suggesting it was firing some amount. Suspect it's a faulty thermostat or 3 way valve calling for heat and the boiler is just in low fire mode for hours.

Booked a boiler service next Tuesday so hopefully can diagnose. Mean time I'll just switch the boiler on/off manually

IHD reckons 67p which is more believable.

Have you got a pressurised hot water cylinder? It could be maintaining a temperature the way a megaflow does?

We have just had a pressurised tank fitted (not megaflow) so it could be configured by the fitters that way but this would be wasting more gas (heat) than the tank loses in the day so would be a massively wasteful configuration. I'm more than happy for the boiler to fire up once a day to replenish the hot water used in morning showers but can then switch off. Its a 180L tank at ~55C so its going to have enough heat in it to last the day without trickle heating it.

I've got them coming to do the boiler service so can hash it out next week.

Did anyone manage to capitalise on the negative pricing on octopus Agile tarrif yesterday? Got as low as -20p per kWh.

All the blue blocks were 30min slots people were paid to use electric!

In typical fashion I was away from home visiting parents (nearly emptying the car battery) so couldn't cash in on the negative pricing period. Still got some cheap rates last night (<10p kWh) to charge the battery back up

Am I reading the table correctly? It has been going negative pricing most days during mid-day.

Is it due to too much solar?

It has been cheaper during 10am to 4pm most days than at night (or at least equal). It went negative for the first time on Sunday during the day due to combo of low demand, sun and strong winds.

I've noticed during the sunny but calmish days the price didn't get very low but add in wind and they are dropping very low. Today it dropped to 8p kWh at 3pm. Weekends have been low with Sunday being very low or negative pricing.

Peak today was 6pm which snuck up to 38p kWh .

Glad I went with Agile over Go tariff so far but might change my mind in the winter!

My options are still - get reamed by eon or get reamed equally hard by someone else.

    Yay pre-payment.

I got an email from Octopus a few weeks ago saying they're dropping their prices by 17%, so saves me £55 a month!

coworker managed to use pretty much all of his electric during the slot. I'm not yet on the tariff as octopus aren't reading my smart meter yet

I feel like I may have been overpaying, as Utility Warehouse has emailed to say my annual budget calculation has gone through and I'll now be paying... £85 a month.

I was paying anywhere between £250 and £500...

It really isn’t. Pay exactly what you owe. Why let them make interest off your money? Madness. I’ve never had an estimated bill.

I dunno about Utility Warehouse, but the supplier at the old house appears to be paying me the VAT on my credit balance. Which is five per cent for home energy... or nearly a full percentage point higher than the best easy-access savings account currently available(!)
