NB: Admins and fellow forum goers, I apologise for the double post (see Hardware/Overclocking section). It's just that I realised that my problem was more of a tech support question. Admins, feel free to delete one (or both :() as you see fit.

    Hi guys,

Just bought a new EVGA 7900gt to replace my XFX 7800gt. The XFX card used a standard molex for power but the new EVGA card uses a 6 pin pci express connector.

I rebraided all the cables on my psu a few months back (which involved removing all the plugs and... yes... voiding my warranty) but I took great care and I'm 99.9% certain that all the cables were replaced in the correct place in each plug so a short seems highly unlikely.

However, after plugging in the new card and pci express connector for the first time the system powered up okay but there was no output to my monitor.

I'd already made sure that all the previous video card drivers had been removed.

Slightly confused, I rebooted the computer by the power switch, only to be greeted by a rapidly flashing (and dull) standby led. Also, there is a very subtle 'crackling' sound coming from the psu.

I baffled, I'm not using anywhere near 600w but it looks as if my Enermax just kicked the bucket.

Update: I just tested it with a generic 350w psu. The green standby led still flickers?! This looks to be a mobo problem now. I tried reseting the CMOS but no joy :waah:

Looks like I might be requiring a new psu and mobo..... ouch :(

    Any thoughts?

Replace the psu first, it may just be that the generic 350w psu isnt powerfull enough. Although tbh it sounds like your motherboard has fried.

Get a new psu, see if that fixes it, if not then you should be able to rma your motherboard.

    Cheers for the prompt reply.

:waah: Can't really rma the mobo, I bought it on ebay.

So I'm looking at about £200 to get her up and running again :(. Does anybody know of anywhere that can repair mobos in the London area?
