am now intrigued as to what mod is used to make the cars give the 'HISS' noise when they change gear. what mod is it for? the gearbox? exhaust? etc etc

also what is the actual mod? just looking for abit of info links etc :D ,

muppet. lets use some logic here. what does the driver do just before he opens the clutch?

mind you'll only hear it on turbo charged cars.

Good luck running one of those on a normal engine, apart from some very specific examples (such as a Micra, believe it or not).

In most cars you will blow the engine up or at least shorten its life bolting a turbo on.

Not to mention the amount of advanced tuning you need to do to actually see a performance increase...

and the complexity of adding one to an engine not designed to have one fitted.

And not to mention the fact that these are actually COMPUTER MODDING FORUMS and not a car ricing scene :duh:

You could give this place a try though ;)

umm Lord A, I know it was not such a smart question, but this IS the motors forum!

    EDIT: a little info:

The turbo makes x amount of boost. When shifting gears you must release the pressure so it doesn't overboost and blow your engine. The overboost comes out through the blowoff valve. That is the sound you hear.

You can have forced induction without a dump valve...You just have to use a low pressure system.

Conversely, most engines can have some form of forced induction...Just not all can have a 2bar, twin ceramic setup :p

    You'll need to:

Lower engine compression by fitting a thicker head gasket.
    Upgrade the internals
Have manifolds made to fit your engine
Have downpipe et cetera made to fit your engine

and so on and so forth...

Or you could do what a guy I used to go to school with did...he fitted a small mp3 player and speaker under the bonnet of his Corsa. He pulled up and I thought he had done an LET conversion...dropped the 2 litre twincam turbo from a Calibra in there...

Needless to say, as soon as I saw under his bonnet he got a sound kicking.

    *n

PS: Stop watching those films, it will make you a better person.

...just buy a turbo.... Anyway - most standard turbos seem to go the way of a re-circulating dump valve, most BOV's that dump to the atmosphere seem to be aftermarket. But i do agree - on the right car its a good piece of kit!

Because they're fast and cheap to run.

    Ever seen a turbo'ed Micra?

Micra turbo would be interesting! Has anyone done that? I can imagine that they're cheap to run and practical etc etc and probably quite 'nippy' about town - but fast? Hmmm, depends what you call fast i guess. Anyway - wasnt intending to start some silly "my cars better than yours" crap - was just curious about all the references to micras! :D I take it you've got one then?

They are fast. There's a K12 racing edition which does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds with a top speed of about 155mph. That is mid-engined and RWD though

However a standard one can be very nippy. Joanne from Micra Sport Club forums has a turbo'ed K11 that does 0-60 in 8.5 seconds IIRC.

Yes, I have one, it's an automatic though. If I had the money and time I would drop in an engine from a 1.6 Primera, and turbocharge it ;)

wow - we're in danger of turning this into a micra thread!! Sorry jackass - i think i started all this (but i think you got your answer - dump valve). Im pretty amazed by that blue micra - is there any atandard micra left? :dremel:

Whats the 0-60 on those - 8.5 seems a tad slow. Im suprised they reckon the turbo is not giving enough power (didnt read it fully) but they reckon the engine is good for more - i would have expected it to be the other way around?

Im guessing you micra fans here havent supercharged or turbochrged your micras then? :D

Yes I know, but it happened to be his first post, about car mods, in a 99% PC-Modding, PC-OC'ing, etc. forum.

There would most likely be more help / knowledgeable people on dedicated motors forums rather than here. (no offense to those on here that do know their stuff when it comes to cars, but you know what I mean I hope)

Anyway, glad you got your question answered jackass and hope you stick around and start PC-Modding :)

Nupe but love mine, 1.3 SR 16v twin cam, 0-60 in 10.5 and so far taken it to 118mph on the motorway, might have been able to squeeze 125 (its rated top speed) but didnt have the balls/motorway wasn't exactly empty, might try it one day...with a tail wind, and a slope :p)
