lol, that pic is just a few frames after the one where his foot quite clearly touched the line.
Its not actually a shadow either, its bits of grass and mud his studs ripped up.
If he touches the line THEN lifts his foot he was still out... ;)

agreed. There is a pic on the BBC sports page where his foot has touched the line quite clearly and therefor he was in touch.
Good Call by the TV ref.

It would be nice if there was a shot of his foot as the ball touched the ground, those shots above show nothing that could prove either outcome.

Now if we could only get the CSI: Miami team to enhance that.

Okay, so we deserved the try- it was an excellent move and probably a blade of grass or two in it. Had we gotten it, the game could have gone either way. But we didn't, and RSA fully deserved to win the tournament. They played astounding in pretty much every match, and we should be proud that our team turned things around so well that we got into a final we seemed to have no chance of getting to at the beginning. Winning would have been nice, but I think the outcome reflected reality.

    That doesn't matter.
If his foot has already touched the line, which seems to be the case from most of the evidence here, then he's deemed to have gone into touch long before the ball was grounded.

I agree with A88, I think the move deserved a try.
And I think it would've sparked a much more exciting second half to the match.
In the end though I think the best team won. :)

I'm just going to join this conversation here, as a New Zealander and say buck up :p

Your team has played pretty awfully for the previous 4 years, and most of the world cup excluding the last 3 games. (which i'll note is an admirible quality). But lets face it, your style of rugby play is at times down rite boring.

I can however share you feelings of pain regarding referring and try allowances. *cough* france *cough*
