Alright im getting ready to start some hardcore modding, involving fiberglass (lots of), body filler, 7 chrome fans (3 - 120mm, 4 - 80mm) with white LED's, hopefully a modular power supply by Hiper, A new window for the case, an iPod (yes an iPod), High Gloss Black autopaint, and of course Clear Coat.

My question is this, ive read about engraving from the modding tab, and was "told" for beginner engraves to do just lines, no shading, but im an Art Major and ive done some pretty awesome drawings, i can handle a pencil much better then most people can walk. but i really want to do some hardcore engraving on the window im putting in, and feel that i might be up to the challenge of putting some time into it if i can do it correctly. here is a drawing ive done, its a cumbled piece of paper, then behind it i drew a stripped cloth, that was added in after i was done with the paper:

and here are some of my main choices of then engraving im looking at doing, the theme of my case is gonna be Fallen Angel, cause of the paint and teh chrome fans:

this one was too big to the forums

i personally love the second once i think it makes my point while keeping it clean without too much "human" detail

WOW, thats all I can say, your drawing I thought was a photo.
I personally like the second one better, but it is a bit more complex.
I would say do a bit of practice engraving first, just to get the hang of it, and if you can get a pencil sized engraver, well you'll have it made.
I think the shading thing is to do with engraving actually having depth, so its more difficult than drawing.
    Looking forward to seeing it.

I've done numerous engravings with shading. I wasn't ever told I couldn't, so I just did.

k a quick question, when i start the engraving/etching, should i use the frosting of it as the white or should i make the frosting black, i figure if i could do the frosting as the white on the picture then it would help reduse the flat edge when im finish, cause im dealing with a pretty good sized window.

I would say get a practice piece, then do both on a small area, then decide which looks best.

Yea. I've done tons of engraving on plexi. The second one will due just fine. The first would probably be the easiest and the last probably wont work without lazer engraving
