Modding Engravings + The weighted companion nas !

Hey Everyone, since my last planned engraving went to **** because of issues with the paint sticking to aluminum, im starting up a long overdue engraving of my Fractal R2 which will be made during the coming 4 weeks (hopefully starting it up tomorrow morning tho)

Engravings shall be

Quistis Trepe of Final Fantasy 8


And from my last engraving tho this time in a more epic proportion

Samus Aran ( my arm hurts from remembering all the dremel-action the smaller version needed...)

So i´ve been mulling it over at work and plan of attack will be the following,

Samus will be placed on the right side of the case to cover the plate as much as possible.

For Quistis i´m gonna start finding a thin aluminium panel (black) which will be engraved and then Glued to the front of the case, have not worked out yet whether i will try to find a way to mill out a slot for the plate or if i should just attach it to the front as is...

Sorry about a lack of updates for these 2 days, i need to get both images printed on larger papers otherwise i wont be abled to start the rough sketching for the engravings, i´ll be able to get this done tomorrow morning after work so i should be starting things tomorrow at about 11ish

Previous pic was a check i did to see how the quistis image would go on the front surface, only thing left is to find a suitable slice of aluminium to go in the spot and i have that standing by.

So for anyone waiting, i promise getting started tomorrow

Not sure on the rules on linking to sites so I'll play it safe.

Have you considered laser engraving? If you know someone who can do it then great, if not I can PM you to the forum and you might be able to track the guy down who does it.

 

Wouldnt post this in a modding forum unless i intended to do it myself, check my metroid engraving.

Using a laser to engrave it means its a dime a dozen, with a dremel, it becomes 1 of a kind, even if there is a shared picture, a laserengraver will replicate it perfectly, but since i will be doing it by hand, no 2 engravings will be the same.

And its more fun to do it myself, i think a few thousand others on this forum would agree with me in saying that same thing

Tried doing the prints at work and the damn printer is complaining about a paperjam, i feel ashamed for not fixing it considering i´ve been doing printer support during the last year... tho i´ll inflate my ego with the fact that its not the same brand

 

Hey everyone, small update so you dont think i´ve abandoned you,

Started tracing the image but it will be a while...



Also charging the camera for when more pics will be uploaded

On a sidenote, my absence is from working really strange hours at the moment which messes up my sleep rythm, therefor i´ve been very sporadic with posts

Morning everyone,

Gonna start the engraving today after a visit to the local hardwarestore where im picking up a sheet of aluminium for the front. Hopefully they have them in black, otherwise i´m stuck looking for one.

 

It is in the works ^^

Back again,

Been at it for a while now, had a paus and went out to check about some stuff. Apparently Black aluminum is rarer then gold when looking in hardware stores
But i might have found a place and im gonna check there tomorrow

For now, more progress updates ^^

fiddly didly, the hard part right now it actually restraining myself and to hold within a slight border from the original edges when im filling. if i go to far the fills will bleed together
