But he needs restriction/turbulence to actually facilitate heat transfer (unless I totally misunderstood the diagram :p)

Its been thought of, but it seems too risky. Isn't there a little hole on top of the heat spreader?

Actually, if that splintered baseplate isn't gonna shed those splinters, that's more surface area than you could ever expect to create. You may have it perfect.

It's hard, slow going learning to do this. You have some +rep from me for trying.

Yeah but I dont want the splinters breaking off over time and having their own in loop adventure. I will have another crack at it :p

    Exactly. Not worth the risk.
    This.

But honestly, the best route would be to just take another crack at it. For a first try, those turned out fine, but I am sure you can do better :thumb:

Surely you could lightly etch the CPU as it's surprising how much you can lap them by.

I don't think so or when using extreme cooling the chip would fry because of condensation within the CPU. I don't think the dielectric grease wouldn't be able to stop it.

Anyway, enough of the thread-jacking as Djayness is deffinitely wanting base plates.

Yeah I bet you can tell I've never sleeved cables before. I was going off the XS cable sleeving guide and I still have much to learn!

Im waiting on a whole heap of parts and I swear I spent at least 5 minutes going through how the cable management would work.

The tube route is also a major headache that I havent figured out.

Today is Valentines day so I think I'll give the mod a rest for a day. Also it's the first day of Chinese New Year and being half Singaporean and all, I cant work that day...traditionally :p

    Er yeah
You need better sleeving and to rectify that bunched-up sleeving on the topmost wire.

    That thing is nasty.

This project definitely deserves MDPC sleeving.

Techflex also has really good sleeving, if you cant afford MDPC sleeving.

Surely there is an easy way to get mdpcx without being in Canada or the US right?

I might start searching for some in Aus, I thought what I had was tech flex :(

I'm not sure about Oz but I was under the impression that MDPC-X had fairly reasonable shipping overseas. I've ordered to both India and the US from there and it really wasn't too expensive.

MDPC-x.com should ship to Aus, i got some sent to the UK and it was only like £6 postage.

Make sure when you sleeve that you stretch out the sleeving as tight as possible. If it is bunched up, the holes open up and you can see the cables.

For white sleeving, i thoroughly recommend getting white electrical tape and wrapping each cable individually in it before heatshrinking it. It will look really white then.

I have contacted Nils in regards to getting some sleeving in :p I can start concentrating on the other parts that need my attention now.

Time for an update I think!

Motherboard trays are so integral to everything in a computer yet they are usually an afterthought, something thats overlooked. Here is my attempt and making the ultimate motherboard tray :p

Did a test fit and...it fits! Moving along....

    • Time for some visualisation.
    • The motherboard cover is painted black and gold with 1000 W across the side in Epic PC font.
    • The wiring is sleeved with mpdc-x black and curls like that to the atx point.
    • Water is running through the res and up into the tube reducer on the motherboard tray, its orange.
    • The motherboard is fully hooked up with my home brewed copper blocks.
    • I have a graphics card.....Its watercooled.

    Getting there, slowly but surely.

Going to give the watercooling another chance.

The nozzels should provide some turbulance into the block and the design should hopefully work out this time. Mist spray, multiple passes and some copper polish should do the trick this time!

Can you post some more info on the blocks? When your talking about Nozzles are you talking about something like a Swiftech Storm design or like a HK 3.0 or like a Swiftech GTZ/XT/GT?

If you are just using water for coolant i would suggest turning a hose on it.

If you insist on misting though, I would not cut all the block at one time. Take breaks in between passes to allow the copper to cool down. This should keep the copper from "melting". A high speed and feed while taking a moderate amount of material at a time should keep the copper form splintering.

Last of all, good luck! The build looks great!
