You may want to consider running the HDs and the chipset + ram on a separate loop as those generate about the same amount of heat compared to the CPU + Vid

 

Cool, thanks. For a 3 loop, I figured 1. CPU, 2. GPU + RAM, 3 Chipset + drives. But for home use right now, the single loop seems fine.

 

Hmm, I think 3 loops would be overkill as the HDs themselves don't produce a ton of heat, and neither does the RAM nor chipset, compared to the CPU and especially the video card (which can easily hit 80 degrees Celsius), 2 loops, one for CPU/vid and the other for everything else should see you through.

If you've got the hardware/tubing, try setting up a second loop like that and see the temperature difference (if any)

 

I agree. I am only thinking of 3 loops in case the hot boat requires it.

I'll wait and experiment with a second loop while doing the Erector Set PowerStation PC.

 

You know what else you could do to reduce heat outputs? Mess with BIOS and lower voltages a bit, also start messing with MSCONFIG and cut out processes you don't need, check active process list and mark some for removal (like java update checker, adobe reader update, and so on), tweak windows and lower the memory usage, I've got mine down to 300mbs, lower PF usage, the less often the computer has to spin the HDs up, the less heat they'll produce, put power save modes in effect, like standby/hibernation. If you're not going to use the vid card for gaming, think about a cheap PCI card or something. I think I've got this old Radeon 9200 PCI card which is passively cooled by this puny heatsink, barely produces any heat. Also consider underclocking components

 

Good ideas for when I do the marine computers. Since they will be 12v, the power consumption will be an additional consideration, which your ideas will address as well as the heat.

Well, it just seemed to work out that way. They were the only people that had a graphics cooler for my card that did both sides. And what seems to be the best ram cooler. And disk coolers. And then for the CPU and chipset, there's seemed to be just as good. I only wish they didn't use 1/4" on there specialized coolers.

So I guess I've turned into a Koolance fan, but that won't stop me from looking at other stuff.

 

Finally ran Prime95. This is after running all day while I was at work.

This is about 30 seconds after shutting Prime95 down. The CPU was down to 37 less that 5 seconds after shutdown. The PWM took a little longer, which makes sense. Now, about 5 minutes the PWM is back down to 43.

@Azayles and Tapper - Thanks for the comments. I haven't worked on it in quite a while. Been working on the boat, mainly. On the computer, though, I added a raid controller and two more 500GB drives so with 4 500s in RAID 5, I got 1.5 TB Raided and 400 GB non-raid. The 1.5TB is full, so I gotta expand

The WaterPlant has been running just great all this time. I add water about every two months.

I'll start back some day, but not for a while. Gonna go to school and get my captains license this Spring.

 

I got a 250 gb hd and its only half full, u have used up 1,5TB how do u do that? lol, anyway good luck geting your licence,hope you wont be away for to long.
