You a Kazaar, Bearshare type person? Or being downloading recently? If not run a virus scanner ;)

Alternatively look at the services, tasks running and see which ones might have been doing any file work.

TMP files are can be wriiten as a psuedo save e.g. Downlad Accelerator would download a file portion per thread of its execution then assemble the whole file once complete and delete the temp files.

    Any other pointers?

hate having files you cant delete, if its still being a pain, drop to safemode with command prompt (hammer F8 at startup till you get the menu) and delete from there, i had one that dint want to leave me Emule temp folder last night, god knows why cos i was unable to see any processes using it.

Im not saying to delete them, cos i aint got a clue what they are, but if you want to, thats a way that should work.

I would try to find out more about those file before you blow them away. If you can't delete them then something has changed the rights to those files...like a Trojan!

Have you installed anything recently? Or half installed and then cancelled? Aborted installs were the cause of some HUGE files in my temp folder. Going into Safe Mode should allow you to delete them, but sometimes it gets a bit funny and you have to reboot a couple of times before it lets you do it.

[edit]I see they've gone now. They were probably just the result of something mundane you did and forgot about, then they got cleared away by the system when they were no longer needed.[/edit]
