Hey all Mums up with her laptop after messing up an initial enroll on the ESU. Now the option is there, you can click on the option. The pop up starts to appear but then disappears after a few seconds. It's most annoying. I managed to create an account and sign in via the store site (any other way resulted in account pop up appearing/disappearing) so the laptop is now linked at least (thought it may help but didn't) It had the most recent update that addressed some people's ESU issues but this pop up is doing my head in. Not entirely sure how she messed it up first time around but there you go. Any ideas much appreciated, won't be able the look at it again until Monday now though. Ta
I sorted our PCs out by allowing OneDrive to do it’s thing and that works. I just have it set so it only syncs one unused folder, as allowing it do more would be impractical because of our slow upstream internet speed.
Could give that a go ta. Trouble is attempting to open anything that has a pop up login hasn't worked. I had to indirectly login via the windows store before.
I posted this in the Win 11 Hardware Rant!. I don't know if following this will reset it? I've just enrolled in the 'Extended Security Updates' (ESU) expecting to pay the £26 for each PC and found that by signing in to the same Microsoft account means all 4 PCs now have extended support. What I can't understand is why I got this extended support for free. It took a little bit of work to get the option for ESU to appear in Windows update but this guide from askwoody forums helped. Just in case the link disappears this is the basics of what you need to do: First of all, ensure the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry (DiagTrack) service is not disabled. For that, in the Windows search, Type cmd, right-click it, and choose Run as Administrator. Enter this command: sc.exe config DiagTrack start= auto sc.exe start DiagTrack Add the following registry key, using the same Command Prompt admin that forces the ESU feature to appear: reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Policies\Microsoft\FeatureManagement\Overrides" /v 4011992206 /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f Restart the Computer once. Use this command to trigger the ESU Popup in the Windows update area, which would resolve the ESU Program not appearing in Windows update issue. cmd /c ClipESUConsumer.exe -evaluateEligibility Restart again, and you should see the pop-up in Windows Update NOTE from the Elf: you may need to repeat the final command 'cmd /c ClipESUConsumer.exe -evaluateEligibility' more than once
Thanks @Big Elf I'll give that a look. The ESU enroll button is there, I can click it, the enroll pop up starts but then goes grey and disappears. I'll will have a look through what you posted and run through it in any case, appreciated E: @Mr_Mistoffelees tried that but no change unfortunately E:E: been told off for looking at it while we're supposed to be heading out. Will look through that @Big Elf but I think it's a bit different as the enrol is there, it does open a pop up with 'enrolling blah blah' banner at it's top but the main body of the box is grey before it disappears after a few seconds. Willing to try anything though so thanks. E:e:e: Any other ideas I can also throw at it on Monday much appreciated
This is getting on my wick. All services that need to run are running Dsim, scan, bits and update troubleshooters fine. Click enrol, pop up pops up grey for a few seconds then disappears. This also happens when trying to add a family member or adding another user. Something's buggering up any of the MS pop up boxes.
Odd So I added a new account via netplwiz and I could open pop up and enrol for support. Switching back to mum's account (to which the enrolment was linked) still shows the not protected and enrol now option. However, checking for updates and it's now downloading the first ESU update. So it is protected but says it's not. See what curveballs this update throws when it's finished
Oddly although it's linked and she's now in a local account clicking any login to MS account results in the pop up still appearing grey and disappearing within seconds. Still, it's enrolled so that's all that matters. E: Thanks for the suggestions btw, I've used bits of all of them in getting to the end result
Saw a mention of a freshly-released patch in my RSS feeds which specifically addressed a bunch of problems people have had enrolling in ESU - can't remember the KB number, tho'. ...KB5072653, a search tells me.
Cheers @Gareth Halfacree Mum has gone now but at least I got it enrolled in a roundabout way. Hopefully those will tidy up the rough edges. I'll get her to run updates every now and then. Made me think though. My mum said what do people do if they don't have someone like me to look at it (not that I'm some sort of expert). The amount of useable pc hardware going to landfill because it can't upgrade easily to 11, owned by people who may not even have heard of Linux, must be disgustingly high.
