Looks that way, according to PSPWorld:

Following last week's report that Sony had told internal PSP developers the system's European launch would be delayed "several months", Sony Computer Entertainment France today confirmed the bad news, AFX reports.

Sony will postpone the European launch of the PSP for several months, with production struggling to meet stronger-than-expected demand, Sony Computer Entertainment France chief Georges Fornay said. Early in March, SCE had warned that it was reconsidering the timing of the launch, as it was concerned about customer dissatisfaction with possible shortages of the system.

That's all they have to say on the matter, but as most of you potential PSP owners will be distraut at the news, I won't do a Sony and delay the inevitable link. ;)

    Ah - there's a bit more over at I4U

so they're gonna dissatisfy their customers by delaying it instead....

Rather wait and have a good product, than get it too soon and have a half-assed. Look at HL2. Patience is a virtue.

It's already complete just (yet AGAIN) they released it too early to meet demand. Same with the PS1 and PS2, it's all a race and Sony consistantly mess it up.... ah well, import it is then.

Wasn't there some consistent mechanical problem with the "square" button on the early release PSPs? I bet that has something to do with the delay too.

I got one imported from Japan, £230 with UK warranty from expansys. I can't fault it especially as when the US PSP is released I will be able to import english language games. The menu system is selectable to english so there are no excuses to not import.

The exclusivity of the import models reamin a bit longer then... :D

The machine design is finished, they aren't changing it, just making more so they can have a big release.

I guess they think it's better to have a delayed launch - make people realise that the product is in demand. Rather than having a warehouse full of PSPs they can't shift, if it's not so successful. It's no accident, I'm sure.

Not as simple as that though, all the software houses will be up in arms about this, they have invested so much money relying upon a certain release date and Sony are literally cutting their throats by delaying. Games dont make money in boxes in warehouses, and I can assure you that the games are in fact ready for distribution, as the american versions will be released within a couple of weeks.

I was just wondering if any of you knew whether the lik sang price included VAT, and what the custom taxes cost to get it here. I wanna get the value pack, but it just seems that it'll cost a lot more than 174 quid (actually including delivery it's supposedly 190) in terms of VAT and custom taxes.

Apparently it's only a problem with a relatively small amount of them. Basically so that they could fit in a big screen and not make the whole thing too large they put the sensor for the button to the side. Some times it would stick or not recognise you pressing it.

The funniest thing about it was the quote from the Sony guy saying something like; 'We made it like that for a reason, if you don't like it piss off' It's so arogant it's great.

Oh and on some PSP's you can twist it slightly and the UMD will shoot out.

I think it's all too convinient that Sony haven't produced enough. They hype it up and then release it too soon without nearly enough stock. Then it get's even more attention simply because not very may people have them.
