A really remarkable story. Over a period of 12 months, secret agents infiltrated a corporation (guild) and stole billions in assets (equivelant to $16,500 US in real life!!) :eeek:

That is simply incredible. I dabbled with a free trial of EVE and loved it, but for some reason didnt pay my fee to keep playing. If it wasn't for being addicted to WoW I'd be buying it right now...

this is why eve > *
been playing about a month myself, incredibly addictive and its definately not a short-term kinda game
you have to train skills to use different equipment (and to use stuff effectively)
and whilst it takes ~15mins to do level 1 on basic skills it takes a week to do level 5
so after a month im still only fly 3rd/4th rank ships and using standard weapons
    its great :D

I pleayed eve for a full year, about 3 months after release and enjoyed it. The game however requires immense amounts of time to get money and items which I wasn't prepared to continue to give. I GAVE the account to my mate who used it as a PVP killing machine in fountain and had a right laugh (his account was mining to make ships for him). He kept the account for a year until he sold it on ebay for £250!!! That character could fly almost any ship and fire large tech 2 weapons this time last year.... it was a beast!

summary: good game if you want to spend ALL your time playing it.

Wow. Some people really take that mmorpg seriously... Problem is, I'm playing it now, and I feel slowly drawn into its gravitational well... can't resist... no... escape...

lol, yup when eve gets ya your hooked.

I just moved into my new flat, no adsl yet, and im having withdrawal symptoms.

Been playing over two years now and imo its the best out there. Why?? Because the game is hard, you have to work hard at getting your ship and equipment, and well if you do loose it, it takes time to get again, rather then respawn and carry on.

Also the political landscape that excists (sp) in EVE can be found in no other game out there. (go read the forums @ www.eve-online.com to see what i mean)

Any of you new bit guys need a hand give me a shout once im back in game (max another 2 weeks), eve chars (well the ones i can tell you about) are Nimbu or Nim Nom.

    Nim

haha you'll be playing for ever now :p
i tried the free 2 week trial after a friend reccommended it to me, figured id get bored after 2 weeks, a month later and its still awesome
finally moved into low-sec systems and started doing a bit of pvp now :D

its much better if you start with a group of people, it makes mining much more profitable and is generally more fun :)

Perhaps the Bit-Tech players should start their own Alliance...

Is it really that bad? I've never really been a fan of MMORPGs, tried either Everquest or Ultima Online back in the day, can't remember which it was, but I wasn't very impressed by it.

    yes but its in SPACE!
also theres much more depth to it imo
you can play against the computer/server by hunting npc pirates or doing missions
but the majority of the game is player driven, most items in the game are built and sold by player (some of hte basic items are sold by npc corps, but big and good stuff is player built)
theres no classes as such, given enough time your character can be a master at everything in the game
    combat, mining, manufacturing etc

    Too late. :D

Aahhh... memories. I loved Elite. I remember back in 1988 we were musing that perhaps, one day it would be possible to play ELITE on-line, with/against other players, talking with others, in a full-colour interactive universe... one day.

    That eve has come. ;)

joined my first proper corp last night - its a start up but got some help from some real big guns (as the CEO is a newbie and the RL wife of one of the big guns) made 3 times as much mining per hour as I would have on my own, plus I've got folk to chat with now...

one of the big guns even turned up with a large ORE ship with three strip miners on it :jawdrop:

We were clearing whole asteroid fields in under an hour :eeek:

That's the way to do it. What I like about Eve is that it positively encourages co-operation. There is no way to manage any other way, practically.
