I'm not sure what people are like round here, but I have to fill up (aka put £10 in because that's all i can afford). Let's hope it doesn't take me too long...

i think everyone should go on strike because of the petrol. Rip off Britain.
If everyone said sorry can't go to work or get the bus, fed up getting ripped off and hearing other nations complain when there pertol costs the 37p.

When these companies are making an absolute fortune, out of regular joe traviling to make end meet it annoys me. It's just not good enough.

sorry for the rant it just anooys me....

Its not only the company pushing prices up, it is also the amount of tax, in the UK 77% of the cost of petrol goes to the government in the form of tax (NOT 77% of the price of petrol before tax is taxed). If petrol didn't have tax, it would only cost about 32p!

Basically it is proportional as it is a %, if the prices of petrol increases, tax increases even more!

Thats the crux of the issue, we pay almost 80% in tax on fuel, so even if the Petrol companies reduced the price by 5p a ltr, it would make little to no difference as the vast majority of the cost is in tax.

The best way to protest is to start using bikes to get around wherever possible. Unfortunately most people don't see it as a viable alternative, even when it really is in a lot of cases.

Oh, and something about the environment... or trees or something..

Bikes ISN'T the best way to reduce fuel prices, this is becasue the government is trying to encourage means of transport, other than car! To protest, we need to block the fuel ports such as Fawley near Southampton. The country will go into chaos if food and supplies cannot get around, it will be damaging to the economy, THEN the government will react and reduce fuel prices.

If the whole country gets involved, the police cannot do anything because you can't arrest 60 million people!

I remember the M27 to Fawley was choc-a-bloc with slow moving tractors and lorries and the dock gates at So'ton being barricaded! That was cool as we didn't have enough petrol for me to go to school!

Yes it is, you're cycling everywhere so you don't need to buy as much fuel, it'll cost less. And you know, trees...or something.

That isn't the point. The point is to reduce the price of fuel per litre! Think a bit more broadly, fuel is needed to fill up lorries for food and other supplies, if prices continue to rise then the costs of living will increase dramatically. There is electricity to think of as well. It is not just the cost of filling up your car to think of!

well if it is the government that controls the pricing then, if everyone went on stike unable to function as a country, this would make the government lose money. We are too "british" to argue and i mean argue.

These polititions dont have to worry about the cost of petrol, they get driven around in their jags, and live not to far from their work, plus they do alright wage wise.

The average joe who make's minimum wage and has to do an hour travelling to work struggles to manage the wage they r on with having to worry about petrol, rent, insurance etc.....

but remember the profits bp and esso made - if they are making that much how much "profit" is the gov making......

Strictly speaking that's not true. The fuel duty is a set amount per litre as below:

    Light oils Effective duty
    rate per litre (£)
Ultra low sulphur petrol (ULSP) 0.4832
    Sulphur-free petrol (SFP) 0.4832
Unleaded petrol that is not ULSP or SFP 0.5149
    Aviation gasoline (AVGAS) 0.2883
Light oil delivered to an approved person for use as furnace fuel 0.0604
Other light oil (including leaded petrol) 0.5766

If the price of petrol goes down, people will be more likely to use their cars for unneccesary journeys, and even less likely to want to get some exercise. Petrol is an extinguishable supply. It will run out. As it starts to run out, prices will sky-rocket. You haven't seen anything yet. Bringing the cost of petrol down now is just going to make this happen sooner.

You can offset the higher price of groceries by not driving a few short journeys, saving money on petrol. Saying that the cost of living will increase dramatically is probably a bit of an exageration, at least for the next 5-10 years. It would seriously do a lot of people in this country a lot of good to start getting some exercise.

A good solution could be to have different prices for commercial and domestic uses. But this would unfortunately be subject to abuse of course, and nigh on impossible to administrate.

    Don't forget the trees.

BUT in iraq gas is under TEN CENTS .10 US DOLLARS!

I wish the Americans would stop complaining about their gas prices. They have one of the cheapest gas in the world and is the richest country in the world. Compare this with Europe where costs of living are much higher, and gas prices are 2.5x higher than in America. You have cheap gas, face it, and if you are complaining, get a less gas guzzling car. Why does everyone in America have to have trucks and SUVs? Why not just get a car?

No offense, I love America, but it just them complaining about how expensive thier petrol is that annoys me.

BTW. Are you sure it's 10cents a tank, or is it per litre?

i have to rely on a car to get to work, its not on a bus or train route so i have no option. I could maybe get a couple of buses and trains and eventually get there, even though it is about 30 min away it would probably take double maybe more.

I think there should be better options, the politions are getting on the buses/trains i am so he doesn't know what they r like. unreliable expensive nasty. That's a reason i got a car, i would convert it to LPG? if that were available in the area.

    sorry for the rant

There are some unaurthorised blockadges and protests which will go on, but not on the scale as 5 years ago! So tomorrow should be an OK day for fuel!
