This fuel strike is a simple case of the government trying to price motorists off the road - simple as!

I have a right to use my car as I pay my road TAX, Insurance and M.O.T, so why go and smack motorists in the mouth with 80% TAX on fuel and not decrease it a little because of the curreny state of affairs?

I would use other means of transport if it was viable. Last time I tried to catch the bus to uni, it didn't turn up :wallbash:

    Only in Britton eh....

You have a right to drive a car if you can afford to buy everything associated with running one. Just like you have a right to a pet or a baby if you have the responsibility/time/money for one. If you can't afford one then don't buy one.

    oh shush!

in america you will be lucky to live in an area where public transport operates if you dont live in a city.
we have it cheap with cars compared to some countries too. they make up the money on other things, not just petrol prices.

But do they have speed cameras and rediculous P&P charges..... nope!

Motorists in the UK are easy targets to milk for as much money as possible. It's true about making money up in other places, but we ARE paying too much in my opinion :waah:

I have to agree with koola. And theres this very important point that Petrol is the basis of everything really. If petrol prices increases, the costs of living increases, everything else increases because petrol is needed to transport things. Simple maths, petrol prices go up, transportation costs go up, prices of goods go up.

We wouldn't mind so much if insurance prices had to rise instead, or road tax increases a little as this will not affect the costs of buying goods. But increasaes in petrol prices will just make everything more expensive!

I can't believe there are people on here who are actually taking part in the panic-buying! I mean topping up every time you see a petrol station - wtf?

I find it amusing how the protests are about price, yet at the moment they could charge like £2 a litre and suckers would go and fill up because they think it's going to run out. I've been driving around with the gauge on red for the past couple of days because I want to get by without having to pay a over a quid a litre, and without taking part in the rediculous queues... if I can make it to the weekend when I finish work I might just survive, for the time being anyway. I may have to stick a fiver in this evening when the gauge goes below the red. :p

Some guy who had one of the last independant petrol stations in the UK did that last time there was a strike. Afterwards, everyone boycotted his station, and he went bust witin 3 months. I'm guessing petrol stations are franchises(?) so maybe they want to retain their business....

TBH nobody but heavy-haulage can justify any engine over 1 litre. All those 30something women driving 10 minutes to the school run in their 5-litre X5 BMWjeep to pick up one 8 yearold!??! STOP BEING SUCH A SAD LITTLE SHOWOFF. GET A SENSIBLE CAR. Something under 1.5 litres, max. There should be a global engine capacity restriction for personal vehicles. Then companies would have to make more EFFICIENT engines to make a faster car, not BIGGER engines.

If people can afford petrol for such a big car then fair play. I know I wouldn't be driving around in a 1.4 if I had the money.

I guess we will be seeing this happen on a more frequent basis as time goes by. What can we do??? Probably very little. Regardless of the price of fuel, drivers will still purchase it. The efforts 5 years ago have not made any difference. I think they have us over a barrell.
