Anyone got any information on whether they will be producing ER rated cards for this series? How much of a wait am I in for??
Of EVGA's graphics cards, only certain cards have their ten year warranty. Now because I don't upgrade at every release or every second release, I prefer the ten year warranty over the 'three year transferable' warranty that EVGA offers. Cards that have a ten year warranty end in -ER in the product code, cards with 3 year, end in -KR. I had my 8800GTX from 2006 till a year ago, when it died and was given a GTX 460, which I'm using now. I'm just waiting for the -ER rated cards to be released so I can go out and get a GTX 680.
*edit* Just realised I can purchase the extended warranty for an extra 50 euros. Might just do that instead of waiting.
ER Cards will be things like the Hydrocopper's and the Classifieds, but they won't be out for at least a month I reckon
I'm probably going to cave in and go for the EVGA GTX 680 SC + BACKPLATE. What with The Witcher 2 refresh due out very soon and also Sins Rebellion, the latter dependent on a single GPU for the niceness. Sadly time to drop my beloved GTX 460 SLI. That is if ebuyer decides to stock the damned thing!
You forgot; they make them look sexy. It's odd that manufacturers always make the fans and cooling aesthetically pleasing, but by the time you go and install the card, you often end up looking at a plain boring pcb. Backplates are the way forward.
The EK backplates help with passive cooling too. You have to mount thermal pads to the underside, which you did not have to do with the 580's.
