My wife bought herself a very cheap pair, just to test the concept but, would now like a better pair. I have never tried bone conduction so, has anybody got any personal experience of bone conduction headphones and, if so, got any recommendations?
Interesting, didn't know these existed. However, when I'm listening to stuff, I almost always want to block the outside world out, so that nips that in the bud. Might be handy if I ever get back into long distance cycling and want to have Google maps whispering to me.
My brother in law is a cyclist and uses some when he's out on the road, so he can hear what's going on. No idea which model or how good they are, I can ask if you like Mr_M
Thanks but, I think my wife is going to go for Shokz, following my asking the same question on WhatHiFi. However, another opinion based on experience, may still be helpful.
Why is she testing bone conductors, for what purpose, I looked at them so I didn't have anything in my ears and could hear the world around me but ended up testing Shokz Open stuff, both opendots 2 which are like clip on earrings and openfit 2 pro which is hanging a little speaker over your ear, these were both very good, even managed bass, clip ons great if you wear glasses, no annoying interaction. Also as mad as it sounds the openfit even manage an element of noise cancelling when needed despite not even being in ear. Both worth a look if it is non in ear she is after. Shokz do bone conductor too, the general sound of the two other types I have tried I have been really happy with so can't imagine their bone conductors to be bad.
One of my partners liked these for the same reason as above, music while cycling so they have spacial awareness. In tech they're weirdly common, so people can listen to music and talk to others at once, seems odd ot me as I'm like you, if I'm listening to music I'm focussing and want external noise cut, but I've experienced it at a few places now, they say its more natural than something like airpods with transparency turned up.
My wife has a pair of bone conducting headphones for swimming, a set of Finis Duo - shes never complained, and uses them every time she swims... and they've lasted/still work ~8years later...
I've got the Openrun Pro 2. They're more of a hybrid. Comfy & sound OK but a bit quiet for exercise and the mic picks up everything in the room so no good in the office. Great when I'm sitting in a quiet room (on my own) on a 4 hour call though
