ok i am gonna stealth my cdroms... BUT, i want the led from the cdrom to be down with my hdd led and power led. I really don't want to do any fiber optics high tech stuff (thats what my friend recommended to me and is what i'll do if i absolutely have to).... I wanna just take two wires from the led in the cdrom and hook them to another led in the front of the case... Now I've taken a peek at the led and its really small and I don't kno how to begin this task or even if it is possible to complete... Does anyone have any suggestions, articles, or alternatives for my task? chuckles
Well shouldnt be too hard to do, havent seen any articles on it but there are some around for moving led's from nic to front of case. Check those articles out, it should be very similar.
i have done this i had to take out the led from the cd rom connect wires into the holes where the led was and put a new led on the end of the wires i also put an in line conector so i could take the cd rom out without having to take out the led
that would be a nice and simple solution, BUT the leds are really small and are you sure that if i pull them off i can find the spot to attach the wires to?
when you pull them off there will be two holes where they used to be. you solder in two pcb pins and get a connecter with wire to attach to the led.
just use a shunt, those 2-3wire setups for your hd activity, power on. a lot of places sell them for 10 for $1 is you dont have any. solder 2 leads to one end to attach to the cdrom and you have 15" to move your light with.
soory i forgot that bit the led legs where quite long on the cd rom i did so what i did was to cut the led off just under the body so i had two legs sticking up i then solderd the wires onto there using heat shrink to cover the solder joint and the leg one note you have to be quick soldering onto the legs as they can just drop out but you could use pins like the ones used for jumpers on motherboards or sound cards they will do fine it sounds harder to do than it actually is if you have any specific questions e mail me
ug i've been trying to rip off these leds in the cdrom drive for hours and they won't budge......... does anyone have an idea of how i can get them off?? thx
just use fibre optic cable, it is really very easy! all i did was grab a fibre optic cable which came with some minidisc player or alike and butchered the outer black plastic, cut little bits of fibre optic off about 5-6mm and pushed them into the 1mm holes i drilled in panel and a bit of poly cement around them to stop them falling out and twas done
take a nice warm soldering iron to them and they should come out with no force at all... don't try prying or ripping them out... you're likely to wreck some very essential things and end up with a dead drive.... and in anycase... in order to extend them, you'll need to do some soldering as well... just follow this how-to.... and instead of soldering the LED directly in place, just solder two wires to the cd drive and solder the LED to the ends of the wires... making sure to keep + and grnd aorted out...
