    Hi,

most TV's these days will recognise USB-sticks, some even external drives.
Is there an external BD drive on the market that's recognised as an harddrive by TV's?

Even if an optical drive was recognized as a mass storage device (which I doubt), a TV wouldn't be able to play the files on it without the required software.

edit: Seems that optical drives are part of the mass storage class after all. But the second point still applies.

    Hmmm correct.

How about recommending me a general external BD-combo drive?
    For instance:
    LG CP40NG10
    ASUS SBC-06D2X-U

or generally, are threre brands to avoid? Drives without zone exclusion? Drives that are particularly capable of BD-ripping?

You need an external BD/DVD with seperate PSU, as the USB-ports of a TV usually don't deliver enough power.

I'm using my PS3 as BD-drive, but my old external LG DVD/RW was also accepted by my Samsung TV once I hooked it up to the USB-port.

I've already got a "standalone" Blurayplayer, so no PS3 :D

I'd use it for the main PC, the Netbook and other PC's around as well, hence external.
