    Finished Game

    I finished the game.

HL2 has better grahpics and a smoother engine.

Story line is interesting, but unimaginative. nothing that has not been seen before.

I enjoyed the game, but found the ghosts simply a nuisance and largely ignored then until they began to hurt yuo.

The ending is a little too cryptic and very short. Leaves you with vrery little other than the obvoius to think about. A sequel will be difficult on this theme.

Overall the game is a little short and the endless corridors tend to make yuo go quicker and quicker thru the game

Well I finished FEAR but was bored most of the way through, there is just not enough variety in either scenery or enemies to make it worth finding the next door and it WASN'T scarey at all. I thought DOOM3 was much better (played it through 3 times) and Farcry and Half Life 2 were both better still. I even found Snowblind better and that wan't hyped at all and only cost a tenner. Oh and Deus Ex 1 and 2 were both better too. I even have memories of Quake 1 and 2 that were more enjoyable and interesting than FEAR. Unreal was better. Any one remember Duke Nukem 3d yep you guessed it, it was better. Just my $0.02.

My only gripe about the game is that it's too short! I enjoyed the single player mode much more than MP, I got my ass handed to me in the first minute every time!
As for performance, it ran excellent (no shadows) on my system at 1024x768 on high or max settings.
    My rigg consists of Abit IS7-G, P4 2.8, 1gig ram, ATI 9600XT-256, 120GB HD.
    Keep it lean an mean...

I'm playing this game at the moment and it's definately a lot of fun :)

Just out of interest though... what is a good FPS in this game? I ran the performance test and it all looks great but don't really understand the statistics given at the end.

Juppun, 30 is the lowest you want it to go, but, you'll need to test it in the really hairy parts of the game to get your minimum framerate. I'd say a normal FPS of 60 is desirable, thats what I set it up with, and even then certain parts of the game were nearly unplayable by my(low) standards.

IMO, FEAR is one of the best FPSes of all time. I found it much better than HL2, although I'm probably the only person who didn't like it. I also found it to be very CPU-efficient, whereas games like HL2 and Doom3 stutter on my Celeron 2.4(yes, I know it sucks, but not everyone has loads of cash), I can turn up all the system settings to max in FEAR without any performance hit. A friend of mine has a P4 2.8GHz with a 9800XT, and I get almost the same frame rate as he does at the same settings, though his are a little higher because his GFX card is better. The final level was pretty disappointing,
I was expecting some sort of climactic fight with Alma, but no such luck,
although the end with the explosion was very cool, and the ending in the heli was very well done. My favourite part is still
in the warehouse, where it goes into slow-mo and you see Alma coming with the explosion behind her, and it blows you through the window.
The graphics are also incredible, especially the water which is physics-interactive :D, although I would have preferred user-castable shadows, like in Riddick where you can dynamically alter the shadows by using the flashlight. For the record, I run it at 800x600, with mostly maximum details, medium on a few things like shadows and shaders, and 4XAF, which it greatly benefits from.

I didn't really like the actual story but what I do like is online play, I can play it for hours and not get bored. Also I play @ 1280*1024 @ max everything accept shadows, with no 2xAA & 8xAF :thumb:

I've only recently bought FEAR. I love it! It's a resource hungry monster tho, but I can run 1280 4xaa 8xaf with everything except soft shadows on, or at max.

I love the intelligence of the AI characters. Good weapons, story not bad... all in all.. it's what I expected. Not tried online yet, but that's not what I bought it for, and I have CS:S for that.

First played it at a friends house, which isn't an ideal settings as hes a grounds keeper, and lives in the middle of a cemetery! I games $hit me up pretty much the same as when I first played Resident Evil (all those moons ago!). I've not got that far into the game, only played around an hour's worth.

I think they have taken the best of a few games and mish-mashed them together though. Ie: Bullet time from Max Payne, stealth from Splinter Cell, physics from HL2 etc..

A great game, just not one I could play on my own in an empty house with the lights off..!
