How to trick the system and protect yourself from Facebook (WARNING: This is not recommended for sheeple who are content letting Facebook run their lives!):

-Purchase a pay as you go cell phone.
-Add your own real name to the contacts with a bogus number attached.
-Log onto a computer at a public location such as a library. NOTE: Use a fake name for log in purposes.
-Create a thow-away email address using fake details. Remember these details, only write them down with pen and paper if you must. They are your alternate self.
-Register for Facebook using your fake email and information.
-Input your contact list from the pay as you go phone.
-Create accounts with IM services using your fake info. Create fake ones for your real name as well (in addition to any you may actually use). Add the fake and "real" ones to each other's contacts. Register on Facebook.
-Search for your real name on Facebook using the fake account.

You've successfully made Facebook think the real you is someone else, while also creating a shadow profile in your real name with fake information! Facebook will tie your real name to the fake phone number and fake IM accounts leaving you free from further monitoring! Remember: keep this method secret. Tell no one but only your closest friends to ensure that they don't accidentally tie your real name to any real information.

I'd glad they are looking after my profile, I haven't touched it in 2 years.

Opened thread, clicked link, saw Alex Jones' name, became overwhelmed with disinterest at another load of his ******** and closed link.

On a serious note: why in the hell is anybody getting up in arms over this? The only reason I can think of is complete and total lack of critical thinking abilities, or they've just the general mindset of somebody with an extreme paranoia disorder. Quite literally these "shadow profiles" are little more than just the conglomeration of information your friends and family have added to the social media network, and quite typically consist of little more than a name and one or two photos that you've been "tagged" in (using whatever name provided, real or not). Unless facial recognition software has taken massive leaps and bounds since I last looked, and your friends always use your name exactly as it is spelt upon your birth certificate, and those "looking" for you already have a facial profile of you, nothing contained on these sites is of any use whatsoever. You seriously want to violently oppose and shut down a business because your friends have told a computer that somebody with your name is in a picture? Does nobody else see the stupidity of this proposition? I quite typically am the first to oppose any sort of infringement upon my privacy, but this is going a bit far off the derp end.

Go take your blind stupidity somewhere else, because the "man" isn't actually looking for you (he's too busy wiping ***** off the hookers ass he just snorted coke off of), and nobody with a functioning frontal cortex actually believes any of this ********, alarmist tripe.

I've had 2nd thoughts about this. Now I think it's a great idea. We've all got that one socially inept friend - the one that point-blank refuses to get onto Facebook. Now even they can have their own profile, they don't even need to sign up.

    Good work FB :thumb:

I some how managed to miss this on XKCD.

Thank you so much for showing me a nice concise way stating how I feel when smart people believe stupid things.

Ah, I think you've misunderstood. My post was meant to be comically over the top and a stereotype of paranoid conspiracy theorists.

I have to rebuild my reputation as a non-believer to keep my cover. Keep fighting the good fight! If you ever need to make contact place a single A4 sheet in your mailbox with only "Resistance" written on it. It'll reach me.
