The general forum of Bit-tech can be just as bad.

Isn't the OP giving us a status update on something we didn't really need to know ??

'Status update : just deleted my facebook account, lol'. :D

    +1

Block announcements from the most tedious applications - one day, I will burn Zygna to the ground - and everything's gravy. People I never expected to see again found me pretty easy.

What's with the anti facebook? Just remove the morons and keep the people you WANT to stay in touch with or listen to. It's called choice.

Or delete your account and keep in touch with people you want to talk to by phone or email? I ditched my facebook account months ago and I feel a lot better for it.

Right now I'm at my desk and have no clue where my phone is, I desperately need to get in touch with someone, leave them a message on Facebook 'Ring me' 30 seconds later due to them having access to the web almost everywhere now, not only have I found my phone but I have made that phonecall.

It's convenient. It's a free service, why turn it down and rage about the popular kids, it isn't an american highschool drama.

Re: Free Service. I know about the implications regarding personal data but if you have your wits about you then it just makes life that 0.01% easier.

I have no friends and my phone is almost welded to my hand :) If it works for you, great. For me, not so much.

    Lo of anti facebook talk
I use it, handy for keeping up to date with people you don't speak to a lot, nice for large events etc.
Easy way to talk to lots of different people
    Especially useful for group discussion.

Oh look, it's this thread again.

I use facebook because it's a convenient combination of an address book, a photo sharing website, a forum, a calendar and (to an extent) it replaces a few mailing lists.

Or in the tune of Kid Cudi: I got 99 friends, but they all bitches. ;)

But in all seriousness, I still use it, it's quite useful sometimes and allows for communication when someone has limited time, texting or phone calls. Although it's no replacement for real human contact, it helps sometimes.

But agreed, arguments over facebook are ridiuclous. Then again, the only argument i had over FB ended up being an even bigger argument in person, and only petered out over FB. So I guess it doesn't apply to me that much.

Never used it and never will. I feel no need to publicise my private life and I'm content with my current levels of social interaction. My biggest problem with it is its popularity with the computer illiterate who do not understand the vagaries of communicating using the written word. The amount of pointless arguments I have seen because one person has miss-interpreted what another has said or meant.

I love not having facebook. I used it once when I was traveling so family could see photos and such like but the moment I got back I closed it.

There's a wonderful moment when you meet someone new or an old friend and they ask for your contact details or more usually "I'll add you on facebook" and you tell them you don't have an account. It's a mixture of surprise, shock and horror. It's like suddenly their looking at someone who has intentionally crippled themselves.

My main objection to it is people these days seem to expect you to have it. As others have said if you want to speak to me then by all means call me or pop round and see me or write me an email or even a letter if it's really really important.

I've never used it and don't plan to, as stated by Da_Rude_Baboon I don't feel the need to put my private life in the public eye.

The humble text message and phone call are all I need.
