a friend's pc on windows 98 SE has had some monitor problems...After about 20 minutes, even when he's working on it, the monitor fades darker and darker until it's black. Sometimes if he hit Ctrl-Alt-Del it will come back on, but sometimes not....does anyone know what might be causeing this? My only thought is the monitor is broken (it is very old)

my friend had this exact problem and its turned out to be his old graphics card was on its last legs.

I had a similar problem but my monitor got brighter and brighter till it went white and i had to restart.....this was because i'd give3n it a bit of a knock and it was old and summti inside had gone.

Why dont u bring ur monitor round and c wat happens?

Nope.. definitely a tube heater problem. I'm assuming it's a CRT monitor and not a TFT?

Well, I think its fair to say that its either the gfx card or the monitor...

    So:

a)try a different monitor, see what happens
b)try a different gfx card, ditto

    :D
