So I have a gigabyte z87x ud4h and a 4770k. I got bored and figured if try a 5.0ghz OC. When I applied it, all my system does is shut down and start up. It does this continually until I switch the psu to off.
Sounds like it might be time to poke the clear cmos button. Or be a hipster and find the jumper. Do they even put those on boards anymore?
If no clear cmos button, power down pop the battery and leave for a minute. Replace battery then hey presto she,ll work
I suddenly feel old. I still remember when I had to set IRQ and DMA with a jump on each daughter board, set the FSB and multiplier of the CPU with jumper, when mobos had soldered not removable battery to keep the bios
+ what others have said! 5 ghz? good luck getting that! an everyday OC is more like 4.6ish Reset BIOS and go from there!
Ok so clear CMOS wasn't working so I pulled everything but the CPU. It was staying on so I added the card, worked, added my ram back and it kept shutting off and in again. So i put 1 ram stick in and it worked so we added them back one at a time and the 4th DIMM would cause it to repeat. Put the bios back to 1600mhz and then the 4th and it worked so dunno what that was about. As far as OC'ing goes on the 4770k, I've gotten 4.8 stable on a corsair h100i running push.
Have you run prime 95 small fft for any decent amount of time, if so what sort of temps are you getting?
That's almost better than my lapped and IHS modded 3770, and way better than just about every review of an overclocked 4770 that I've read
