Just thought I would share this bit of knews with SFF junkies out there. Falcon Northwest now sells a Fragbox Do It Yourself kit. However doesnt come with a motherboard its only the case. They are realy sweet, fits most Micro ATX boards and can house a full size power supply and pack any two slot video card. The cases are custom made by Silverstone. So you can assume the top quality. But like most things in life top quality parts cost. And the asking price for the kits is a whopping 300$ But then again if cost is no issue and you like SFF pcs cant go wrong with this case. Your thoughts...

So it's $300 for just a case? For $300 I'd rather buy a Shuttle or a Antec Aria and build my own system.

*Doesn't know what an Aria is, so he finds one*

Whoa... If I were to buy this.

    AND this.

Then that would be better, AND cheaper than buying a shuttle because it's got more PCI slots, and it supports PCI-Express.

Would this be a good alternative to buying a shuttle?

That's a nice combo. As for being better and cheaper depends what shuttle model your comparing it to. Shuttle do some pretty damn expensive models these days iirc. They also don't make a AMD PCI-Express one yet. But if you need the extra PCI slots then yeah I'd say it's a good alternative. Don't forget overclocking potential is very limited in shuttles / matx boards. So that's something to bear in mind.

I'm comparing it to their only socket 939 model. Except that mobo isn't an Nforce 3. That makes me sad. I'm still going to be hopefull and expect Shuttle to come out with a socket 939 with PCI-E...

This one still has 3 PCI-slots though... that's tempting.

How do the two chipsets compare?

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Shuttle bring out that kind of model. As the for the chipsets I've no idea I don't own any AMD 64bit stuff.

Yeah... I'm still waiting for a reply from shuttle on this matter. I guess I'll just keep saving up money for now.

Theres no dout that 300$ for it is expensive. But also like I was saying. If money was no option. That Antec case is realy nice but your still limited to using the powersupply provided and not just any ATX power supply. As for me, im just gonna save up and spend the extra money for the FNW case. I know most will say im crazy but in the end is jsut a matter of personal opinion and satisfaction. Cant go wrong either way. And I believe someone posted on the thread about wanting a micro atx motherboard that supports AMD 64 and PCI express. Im almost certain MSI has one out.

Ooops. Didnt know you were looking for a Shuttle brand motherboard with socket 939 and PCI-E. Havnt seen one yet but im sure -H- is right. Only a matter of time berfore you will see them on store shelfs. I would expect to pay around 300$ for the barebone (case, board, pw)

So you'd pay $300 for a shuttle, case and powersupply from Shuttle but from this other manufacturer you'd expect to pay $300 just for the case? The shuttle power supplies are perfectly adequate tbh and it's not worth paying all this extra money, so you can spend even more cash on an equally good power supply.

Shuttle PSUs probably have the best power/size ratio of any unit I've seen before, they're stunning.

Im looking at ]this mobo for my shuttle, i originally found this thread cause i was thining of buying the fragbox. Falcon makes PCs for ppl who will spend the excess buck, since they usually cost $2-10k. BUT, also i was considering this, since they are the ones who make the cases for Falcon Northwest. It is not the same but very similar. I was looking for parts and I found they were making a PC like the one i was thinking bout, but with quad sli. Take a look.

Holy thread bump! Check the dates before you post.

That mobo is u-ATX so will fit in a u-ATX which the Antec Aria is.

That motherboard is full u-atx, so it will fit in the case you've linked. That Silverstone again takes u-ATX motherboards.
