Personally I just see the internet as an efficiency thing. The internet has made the same old things more efficient. All we really want from celebrities is someone to admire and judge. Just like the dad who pushes his kid into football/rugby/whatever, we live in part, through them.

All the internet does is allows us to judge, criticise, admire, and desire them in a quicker, more efficient, more open way. Maybe it's something new to this generation of celebrities, but it's the same as what radio did to newspapers, and TV did to radio.

As Mr. Garside says, the downside of the celebrities being on the internet is that certain people think if they get all over the internet too they're bound to become celebrities, which has given us the hellhole that is myspace.

If you look at this on a long enough timescale though it's the same old thing. Discontended people with crappy lives have always looked to other people to give them hope and get them through the day, they want to be part of someone who's had a great adventure in life, and with each technology jump the knowledge of the desired persons life becomes more and more open, and the picture of who they really are more and more complete. One day perhaps we'll get to a stage where we can learn so much we find these people are no better then the rest of us, but I do not think the internet will bring this. It's a new world for sure, but it's just business as usual.

I had forgotten that the internet was to blame for the Arctic Monkeys, time to cancel my ISP subs.

The internet is Andy Warhol's 15 minute blurb.

Though for some, in my opinion, like Paris Hilton, that 15 minutes has dragged on for a damn long time. She's just famous for being famous.

As for admirable celebrities, there really aren't that many, at least not the "popular" ones.

The internet is like any printing press platform, only quicker, uncensored, and sometimes unverified. But do you really need verification for a sex tape? It's not the Internet's fault you decided to make a video and put it up. It's not the internet that makes celebrities do stupid, excessive, and bad things. It just reports them. The negativity is soley on the action itself (ok, maybe the poster might say something to makeit worse), but in the end, it's nobody's fauly but themselves.

Then again, why should I feel about for someone who makes millions, "works" for a few hours a week, and can do whatever the hell they feel like and get away with it? I so felt Martha Stewart's pain when she got house arrest in her multi-million dollar estate.

Paris Hilton can afford to maintain that fame though. She's a billionaires daughter, and if she wants to be famous, she'll be famous.

Perhaps. It would be difficult to change her image though, and unlike some celebrities, her fame will fade when we're done with her and move on to some other fad.

But I'm guessing that in 20-30 years, some teenage kids will probably take up her stuff, and be "cool", sort of like how some kids now bring back awful stuff from the 70s and 80s and turn them into trends. Ironic t-shirts still make me shudder.

F*** Paris Hilton. And f*** her parents too for raising such an abomination. These are kinds of people who should be publicly stoned to death. Might as well include all those "trendy" kids with retro t-shirts here as well.

Yeah sorry I want off there. I cannot help but feel sad when I see young women on the streets adopt Paris Hilton as their idol and guide in life.

Oh yeah and I hate Mountain Dew.
