    Hi lady and gents,

I'm getting an Antec 300 end of the month, and will need a decent, cheap, reliable fan controller for it. It needs to look simple (hopefully black) and not detract from the looks of the case.

    It will be controlling:

3x 120mm fans (maybe xilence red wings, but probably something black)
    1x fan on a Zalman cnps9500

I prefer shopping at scan and ccl, but anything will do.

Can you guys recommend any specific models, or warn of any to stay clear of?

Ive heard that the Sunbeam Rheobus can take up to 20W per channel and doesn't look too bad. £15 at kustom Pc's. Is it any good?

    Thanks
    Neal

I have the sunbeam rheobus and I reckon it's a fantastic controller, couldn't fault it at all and for ir from Kustom PC's for £15 as you have said so I can recommend them whole heartedly.

I'm running 6 fans from it at the minute, 4x Scythe GT 1850's and 2 Noiseblocker 92mm, the noiseblockers and 2 of the GT's are doubled up to run from one channel and it manages it without issue.

The fact you can turn the fans off completely is a bonus too, only issue I had was the LED's it comes with are hella bright but I just popped them out fairly easily and it wasn't a problem.

I have had one of these for a while now and I love it. Being able to turn a fan right down or off is great and at the time I purchased it that wasn't too common among fan controllers.

It does look great, and being just an LED display rather than a "screen" you don't have to worry about viewing angles.

I can vouch for 12w per channel. Though the most I have ever really used for more than just testing is perhaps around 6 watts which was 3 akasa vipers on full speed (it was loud). I can't imagine actually using 12watts per channel, let alone 20 on those sunbeams. Strap in a few deltas and you could make a hover PC.

    That's an interresting opinion.

OP, do you want a screen? If not necessarily, i'd look at the Lamptron FC2 if you can find a place that has it in stock. 6 channels, 45 watts each and it has the Scythe's turn-off function. It's also pretty cheap for what it is.

Mmmmmm, I know this sin't really want you want to hear - But actually the stock fans provided aren't half bad! On the lowest settings, they're whisper quiet, but still do move the air effectively.

Just a thought, give them a go before you fork out? You might be surprised...

I had a Scythe Kaze Q (3.5") controller in my Antec 300 but ended up removing it as it was unnecessary. With two Silent Eagle 1000rpm's in the front, one in the rear and a Fractal 900rpm 140mm in the roof it cools an overclocked E8600 just fine and in silence with those fans on full speed.

See sig for details - note that the testing was done during the summer with high ambients in the UK, temps are a bit lower now...:D.

I would suggest trying it first without a controller then see how you stand.

I have a Nesteq FanMax 8-Channel Black Fan C 1 £18.97+ vat at scan. Simple and effective, looks great as well. It's 8 channel so you will have plenty of redundancy for later on. The cabling is long as well so you won't need extensions etc.
