    Hi all!

I have a Thermaltake Armor+ MX case with a 230mm fan on the left side. But there's no filter on it, lot of dust coming in my case!

How can I build a filter for that big fan?

    Thanks!

I've seen on other forums where people used "Swiffer" sheets cut to fit(bigger than dryer sheets but don't smell as nice). I tried it and it works well on the front intake on a Lian-Li.

I've heard that a lot of people use women's stockings stretched tight over the intakes... not sure how effective it is though, I should really do that with my Armor...

    A couple more options:

    "NoSeeUm" mosquito netting
    Room Air Conditioner filters

One other thing. As a home owner with pets, I spray our furnace filters with 'Enddust' on the input side before installing. The Enddust tends to really pick up pet hair and bird feathers before they get sucked in. We change filters every 2 weeks to 1 month.

PS: The Enddust works a marvel on picking up stuff from hardwood floors. Swiffer+Endust = win!

3 layers of mosquito-net works best imho.

    1x horizontal - 1x diagonal - 1x horizontal

Then a little frame made out of alu to attach the net to.

    Finished removable dustfilter.

As those mosquito-nets come in white, grey or black usually, there'll be a colour that matches your case.

Aluminium-sheets can be bought in nearly every home depot.

Or you look for a cheaper supplier like metal-workers, etc. A square-foot of 2mm aluminium-sheet is somewhere around 5 Euro there.

Here in the US you can look for wire mesh wastebaskets and office trays. You can find them new at Target and Wally World. Used from the thrift and charity stores. Silver, black and even a pink Hello Kitty mesh have come through here.

Good idea there aswell, allthough the mesh is a little bit too big for my taste. The mesh should be maximum around 0.5mm to act as a dust-filter.

The mesh I used there in my pictures is 1mm, that's why I'm layering it 3 times.

EDIT: Another good option is to use the stuff that speakers are covered with  The stuff is called Sonotex RT -> http://www.intertechnik.com/index/shop/1347335.html and comes in various colours.

Speaker Covers are actually a great idea(never thought of it, ironically I have tons of speakers).

Also if you have a pool and one of those underwater vaccums, use the filter in those, there are even finer than most.

    What I would consider

I think if I were making my own dust filters I'd make them out of a wire mesh like aluminum or stainless steel so they would be easy to take out and clean. I could only hazard a guess at what the percent of open space you would need so as not to impede airflow too much. I think if you used something like THIS it would probably manage to do what you want pretty well.

0.075" seems like quite big spacing, that's 1.9mm in the metric world.

It would be improved if you used a few layers ontop of each other, slightly offset so the holes don't line up. You'll need to be careful not to fill the airflow though.

    @fast1: It's a computer case..

I use regular dryer sheets, though I hate how they look. They work great though.
