I am realising how much dust gets into my computers, so I have decided I will invest in fan filters, but I don't know much about them, firstly, do they go in between the case and the fan, or the other side of the fan?

I have 5 case fans, will I need filters for the fans sucking air out of the case? And what about my side panel fan? It is lighted and a fan filter will just make it look bad, is there any way to solve that problem?

I've always put fan filters on the outside of a case, then have the case panel, then the fan on the inside. Treat it like a grill :) .
Also, there's no point in putting any on the exhaust. It'll only cause less heat to escape over a period of time. I recommend these mesh ones :) .

Yep they're the ones I use. I also had one on the top exhaust to stop junk falling into the pc.

They have an added benefit of covering up bad dremmel work!

You could put it on the inside of the fan, or just omit it, filters on the other fans will help out, and one side fan shouldn't be to bad.

You can use a womans stocking for a filter (works quite well) and you can get the stocking colored and matching the case. Just cut it to size and stretch it over the fan. Cheep effective and washable.

Just cover your intake fans with it, the exaust fans dont need to be covered.

I took jags idea to make fan filters from stockings, so I popped down to the local convienience store and bought some light brown stockings for just 99p - yes I did get a funny look from an old lady who saw me buying them - I have some piccys of how to make them - really easy with some supeglue (although I had a bit of a disaster). I will post the pics later.

The holes in the stocking were small big enough to let air in, but small enough to stop dust getting in. While I was doing that I decided to clean up my case - wires etc. I also noticed that 3 of my fans were the wrong way round I had 6 exhaust fans and no input fans, so I changed 3 of the fans - 2 at the front and one side around to blow in, tidied up the wiring, now u cant see much of it.

And to my amazement when I checked the core temperature I have reduced the temp by about 18 degrees, amazing how doing some small things can greatly reduce temp.

    Was around 60 degrees,
    Now around 42 degrees

Im glad it worked out for you. And the thing with those stockings is that you can get em just about any color you wish so they can actualy match your case theme.
